The second mountain attraction and the third roller coaster was part of an expansion to add three new themed areas to Hong Kong Disneyland. While similar, this attraction varies from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and has similarities to Disney's Expedition Everest attraction because of the ride system.
Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars is the main attraction of the Grizzly Gulch land with an 88-foot tall mountain. The roller coaster climbs up and descends the mountain that has a town built upon it based on the 1840s and 1850s California Gold Rush.
The ride begins in Big Grizzly Mountain Mining Company, home to a sawmill and one of the company's mine shafts. Trains travel through various mine tunnels with animatronic bears, cleverly numbered #8 (signifying good luck) and #4 (signifying death). After an ascent up the mountain the roller coaster layout has a section of track where the trains reverse direction and travel backwards.
