Surrounding the Las Vegas New York New York Hotel & Casino and visible from the surrounding Las Vegas Strip, Big Apple Coaster (formerly called Manhattan Express or Roller Coaster) starts from a height of twenty stories. The ride features two successive drops, the largest 144 feet, to reach a maximum speed of 67 mph. Big Apple Coaster's layout includes two inversions, a vertical loop and the world's first "heartline" twist and dive maneuver. Designed to simulate a barrel roll in a jet fighter, the trains roll 180-degrees, hang upside down for a moment 86-feet in the air, and then dive back under themselves. The ride concludes with some bunny hops and quick turns atop the casino roof.
