Six Flags Over Georgia

Austell, Georgia

Six Flags Over Georgia is a 230-acre theme park located west of Atlanta. This world-class park offers more than 100 rides, shows and attractions. Six Flags Over Georgia is also one of the most beautiful theme parks with more than 100 acres of landscaped gardens as the setting for family fun.

The park's 40 rides and attractions, includes 11 roller coasters, four water rides and a stomach wrenching drop tower. The largest roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia is Goliath, which is also the tallest steel coaster in the Southeast. Other popular thrill rides at the park are Superman Ultimate Flight, Batman The Ride, Georgia Cyclone and the stand-up freefall tower, Acrophobia.

Six Flags Over Georgia claims that great shows and great rides are what has kept four generations of families coming back year-after-year. In 2007, the park celebrates its 40th anniversary and Six Flags Over Georgia is of course holding many special events to celebrate.

Park History

Six Flags Over Georgia is the second Six Flags theme park and one of only three parks in the entire chain to be built by Six Flags founder Angus G. Wynne. The other two parks are Six Flags Over Texas and Six Flags St. Louis.

After the success of the original Six Flags theme park in Arlington, Texas, Wynne started to look for a second location to build another park. Wynne found this property just west of Atlanta along the Chattahoochee River in 1963 and immediately started to design the park. When Six Flags Over Georgia opened on June 16, 1967, Six Flags became the first theme park operator in the United States with more than one gate.

Six Flags Over Georgia was similar to the first park in Texas. The theme was inspiried by the six different flags that have flown over the state - France, Great Britain, Spain, United States of America, Confederate States of America and the state of Georgia.

Over the years Six Flags Over Georgia has changed with many new attractions built to keep the park fresh. Today, only one of the park's original rides remains, the Dahlonega Mine Train roller coaster.
