Six Flags Great Adventure is the country's largest theme park, water park and drive through wild animal safari. Located on 2,200 acres, 67 miles south of New York City and 50 miles north of Philadelphia, are three separate gate parks - Six Flags Great Adventure theme park, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor water park and Six Flags Wild Safari animal park. The 260-acre theme park, the largest of the three, has 11 themed sections offering a total of more than 50 rides, shows and attractions.
Six Flags Great Adventure has a reputation for having world-class roller coasters. The large collection of 13 includes the world's tallest steel coaster — Kinda Ka, one of the world's tallest, fastest and steepest wooden coasters — El Toro, plus favorites like Nitro, Superman Ultimate Flight, Bizarro, and the Great American Scream Machine.
Besides thrill rides, Six Flags Great Adventure offers families with children three separate areas — Looney Tunes Seaport, Bugs Bunny National Park and the recently added Wiggles World. There are also more kiddie rides to be found in The Golden Kingdom.
In 2009, Six Flags Great Adventure celebrates its 35th anniversary. As part of the celebration one of the park's original rides — The Big Wheel — is getting an eco-friendly facelift. The 15-story attraction is being outfitted with 7,824 new energy saving LED bulbs for an animated evening light display.
