Park History Fiesta Texas began as a joint venture between Gaylord Entertainment and USAA, a real estate investment company, who decided to build a musical show park that would focus on southwest music and culture. After 23 months of construction the 200-acre theme park opened in March 1992. Built within an old quarry in San Antonio, the park struggled to turn a profit. After three years, Gaylord Entertainment sold its 14% stake to USAA who then hired Time Warner, owner of Six Flags, to manage and operate the theme park starting with the 1996 season.
