Park History

Fiesta Texas began as a joint venture between Gaylord Entertainment and USAA, a real estate investment company, who decided to build a musical show park that would focus on southwest music and culture. After 23 months of construction the 200-acre theme park opened in March 1992. Built within an old quarry in San Antonio, the park struggled to turn a profit. After three years, Gaylord Entertainment sold its 14% stake to USAA who then hired Time Warner, owner of Six Flags, to manage and operate the theme park starting with the 1996 season. Two years later, USAA sold Fiesta Texas to Premier Parks who had recently acquired the Six Flags chain of theme parks from Time Warner.
