Québec's largest theme park and the second largest in Canada, La Ronde is a 146 acre theme park in Montréal that attracts an estimated 2.5 million visitors each year. Originally constructed as the midway of the 1967 Worlds Fair, the theme park is now owned and operated by Six Flags.
La Ronde features a large collection of 41 rides, including 11 roller coasters and 3 water rides. Major attractions are the 53-metre tall Goliath roller coaster, that is the tallest and fastest in Canada. Le Monstre, is a 40 metre high dual-track wooden roller coaster that is also one of the largest in the world for its kind.
La Ronde is also well known for the annual Montréal Fireworks Festival or "L'International des Feux Loto-QuQuébecbec", which is considered to be the most prestigious fireworks competition in the world. This annual event is held on eight or nine evenings in June and July. During the competition different pyrotechnics companies from around the world light up the sky with a 30-minute fireworks display as they compete to win Gold, Silver and Bronze Jupiter trophies.
Park History
La Ronde is located on Saint Helen's Island in Montréal, Canada. The amusement park was built as the midway for the 1967 Montréal World's Fair. After the fair was over, the city of Montréal continued to operate the amusement park until the city decided to sell La Ronde to Six Flags in 2001.
