Utah's largest amusement park opened on July 15, 1886 under the name "Lake Park" along the shore of the Great Salt Lake. In 1893, the lake began to receed, leaving a sticky blue mud behind that was miserable to swimmers and guests. Three years later Lake Park was moved two and half miles inland to its present location, and the name was changed to Lagoon to suit its new home on the banks of a 9-acre lagoon. Its first thrill ride, Shoot the Chutes was soon in operation and in 1906, the park had an early version of the roller coaster, the Bamberger Scenic Railway. Now over a hundred years later, Lagoon has expanded the amusement park to 38 rides and in 1989 added a 6-acre waterpark called Lagoon A Beach that is included with park admission.
Lagoon is located on Interstate 15 midway between Salt Lake City and Ogden. From Salt Lake City travel 17 miles north and from Ogden travel 17 miles south to the Farmington Lagoon Drive exit (#325 northbound and #327 southbound). Lagoon operates from April through September.
