Kennywood
West Mifflin, Pennsylvania
Editor's Pick – Kennywood Park is located just minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. This traditional amusement park situated on the bluff overlooking the Monongahela River dates back to 1898 and is a National Historic Landmark. Internationally known, this 107-acre amusement park offers classic rides, state-of-the-art thrill rides and world-class roller coasters. Kennywood is also known for its wide variety of food, art deco buildings, games, gardens and live entertainment.
During October, Kennywood hosts a popular Halloween event Phantom Fright Nights on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Another great thing about Kennywood is that it is one of only a few amusement parks that still allow guests to bring their own "picnic" lunch.
Park History
Kennywood began in 1898 as a "trolley park" at the end of the Monogahela Street Railway. The park was purchased in 1906 by F.W. Henninger and Andrew McSwigan and thus began the Kennywood Entertainment company that has remained a closely held family business for over 100 years. This traditional amusement park still has structures and rides dating back to its opening and the early 1900s.
