Park History

The Great Escape opened in 1954 as Storytown USA, a five-acre theme park commemorating Mother Goose. Three years later the park that was geared to small children opened its Ghost Town, the first of many themed areas that would be added over the years. Twenty-nine years later (1983), the park retired the Storytown USA name and became The Great Escape.
