Park History
Bobbejaan Schoepen, a Flemish entertainer who was internationally recognized in the 1950s and early 1960s, founded Bobbejaanland in December 1961. After years of touring, Schoepen decided to build his own music theater. To do this he began by draining 30 hectares of marshland he purchased in 1959. Schoepen then built a concert hall with a capacity for 1,000 guests where he would perform along with other European musical artists. In December 1961, Bobbejaanland theme park opened to the public.
Schoepen and family sold Bobbejaanland theme park in 2004 to Spanish-American Parque Reunidos group. Bobbejaanland was the last family owned and operated amusement theme park in Belgium.
