Knott's Berry Farm is a 160-acre resort, that includes the first theme park in America. The Farm dates back to 1920 when Walter and Cordelia Knott moved to the community of Buena Park, Calif. to farm 20 acres of rented land. Today, that land is part of the theme park that has more than a hundred rides, shows and attractions.
The neighboring Chicken Dinner Restaurant opened in June 1934. The instant popularity of Mrs. Knott's fried chicken brought hordes of people to The Farm to dine. To give the waiting crowds something to do Walter Knott developed Ghost Town, the first of Knott's Berry Farm's six themed areas.
Over the years, Walter expanded the park starting with the Calico Mine Ride and Timber Mountain Log Ride in the 1960s, which still operate today. In 1975, the Roaring 20s section now The Boardwalk opened with the world's first looping roller coaster, Corkscrew.
Today, the park has dozens of rides, including Silver Bullet, Xcelerator, Boomerang and GhostRider roller coasters, plus Supreme Scream, Perilous Plunge and Bigfoot Rapids. Knott's was also the first park to ever design an entire themed area specifically for kids, Camp Snoopy.
During the warm Southern California summer resort guests can enjoy Knott's Soak City USA water park, located across the street from the theme park. Out of town visitors can stay on property at the Knott's Berry Farm Hotel and of course, a visit would not be complete without a meal in the famous Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant.
