Ghost Town in the Sky
Maggie Valley, North Carolina
This mountaintop amusement park has amusement rides, live entertainment like Wild West gunfight reenactments and more.
Ghost Town in the Sky dates back to June 10, 1961. The park operated continuously through the 2002 season. After a four-year hiatus, the park reopened in 2007, but initially without its signature attraction the Cliff Hanger roller coaster which resumed operation in June 2009.
Unfortunately, the tough economic climate forced Ghost Town in the Sky to close again after the 2009 season. The park remained closed until it reopened on July 4, 2013, but without its roller coasters. The park operated for the 2013 and 2014 summer seasons, but did not open for 2015.
The park is slated to reopen for the 2016 summer with a new Appalachian village theme. The chairlift will operate connecting the old-time country store at the base with the mountain level amusement park resembling a country fair atmosphere called Moonshine Holler.
