Canobie Lake Park
Salem, New Hampshire
Situated on the shore of Canobie Lake is this traditional amusement park that dates back more than 100 years. What began as a trolley park is still in operation today and has been every summer since 1902.
Canobie Lake Park is one of the oldest continually operating amusement parks in the United States. This New England gem has also been voted one of the ten most beautiful amusement parks in the country.
Still family owned and operated today, visitors will find 47 rides, including four roller coasters, a log flume, Ferris wheel, steam train and a beautifully restored antique Carousel. The park is also home to a rare dark ride called Mind of Lost Souls where you'll board a car to travel deep into a dark mine that begins to collapse.
The roller coaster lineup includes one of the few vintage coasters left in New England – Yankee Cannonball. Visitors also have the opportunity to ride one of the original Arrow corkscrew coasters that originally ran at the now defunct Old Chicago park.
For the 2011 season, a brand-new roller coaster called Untamed will open. This seven-story tall, steel coaster should get your adrenaline pumping with a beyond vertical first drop and three thrilling inversions.
The midway at Canobie Lake Park has classic skill games, and the park offers live entertainment and a nighttime fireworks display on most Saturdays during the summer months.
