Regal Rip Off - Regal Entertainment Group Cinemas

On Sunday I went to see the latest Narnia movie at Regal Entertainment Group's Edwards Tustin Marketplace 6 Cinemas.

Upon walking up to the concession stand I was shocked, horrified and absolutely disgusted to see that a large popcorn is now $7.00! The small popcorn is an outrageously high $5.50!

The large drink is an incredible rip off at $5.50 and it is a 64 ounce beverage which would translate to 746 calories if filled with Coca-Cola. Talk about offering up a product that contributes to the obesity problem.

When I was a child the cost of a matinee admission was $2.50. A small drink (16 ounces) and small popcorn (46 ounces) were each $1.00. My point is the total cost of concessions did not exceed the price of the admission.

Sunday, the matinee admission was $8.50. That is incredibly high considering that this is not a modern cinema with stadium seating and plush high-back seats. No this is your old sloped cinema with very uncomfortable seats.

The cost of a small popcorn and a small drink will run you $9.50 and that's a dollar more than the cost of admission. It just goes to show you how much concession prices have risen and that Regal Cinemas is deserving of the title I gave this blog the "Regal Rip Off".

It's no wonder I don't go to the movies every week like I used to. It's also a shame to see that a certain theme park chain is obviously a fan of the Regal Entertainment Group approach. Ripping off your customers certainly doesn't make them feel good about returning.

Next week I'll be back at Blockbuster avoiding the rip off.
