Skiing One Million Vertical Feet

If I've been missing in action on Ultimate Rollercoaster lately its because of other activities that I enjoy.

In December I decided that I was going to count how much vertical feet I would ski this winter. After the first five days of skiing in the end of December I decided to set a goal to ski one million vertical feet this season and I surpassed that goal on March 23, 2008 my 37th day. In total, I skied 1,034,692 vertical feet in 38 days.

To ski that I had to ride 676 ski lifts at Snowmass, Buttermilk, Telluride and Crested Butte ski areas.

My single best day was March 20, 2008 when I skied 53,748 vertical feet at Snowmass Ski Area in Colorado and rode 35 ski lifts that day.

More than 1/5 of my vertical was skied on the Big Burn chair at Snowmass - 117 rides for 233,181 vertical feet.

Now that winter is over its time to refocus the attention back to roller coasters and theme parks.

I've been skiing for 27 years. I started when I was 8-years-old at June Mountain in December 1981. I really don't know what the steepest slope I've skied is. I've skied some very steep runs in the 45-degree range before.

Oh...that terrain is insane! Looks like maybe 60 degrees, and it's not groomed. Steepest I've been on is the wall at Holiday Valley. I think it's about 37 degrees. I've been skiing for 3 years, I didn't start until I was 15. Can't wait for next skiing season!

Snowmass Ski Area in Colorado has the largest vertical drop of any ski are in the United States. That affords me a significant advantage over where you're skiing so comparing the two is not fair.

I do ski a lot and no the picture on my profile page is not of me skiing. However, I do ski terrain exactly like that. I have been skiing for 25 years.

WOW! I saw your message on the skiing advice topic, and I thought you were exageratting! I ski pretty often, and I was just trying to add all of my vertical feet up. Holiday Valley (went there 3 times this year) has 750 vertical feet, and I often ski down a a slope that goes form the very top all the way to the bottom. I kept track of how many times I skied it, 47. I also skied down the Wall, which is horribly steep, 6 times. And I figured I skied smaller hills that took about half of the hill or so about 30 times.
So at holiday valley, I skied about 51,000 vertical feet

Kissing Bridge does not tell the amount of vertical feet it has, comparing it to Holiday Valley, I'd say about 250. I went to Kissing bridge 8 times, and had about 20 runs or so each day(the lifts are a bit old and slow). Every slope is about the same height. So at Kissing Bridge
I skied about 40,000

Grand total for the season: 91,000
