WindSeeker Ride To Take Flight at Carowinds In 2012

Charlotte, N.C.Carowinds theme park announced they will debut WindSeeker, a $6.5-million, 301-foot tall swing ride next summer that is designed to give riders the sensation of flight.

WindSeeker will offer park guests a three-minute experience that begins with then 64-passenger carriage begins its ascent, while slowly rotating, to the top of a thirty-story tower. Riders will experience a weightless sensation as the individual two-seat swings reach a speed of up to 30 miles-per-hour and the arms extend outward at a 45-degree angle.

"The sense of soaring thirty stories in the air will be both exhilarating and breathtaking at the same time," said Bart Kinzel, Carowinds' vice president and general manager. "This new addition will give guests an unparalleled view, making it a must-ride attraction for both families and thrill-seekers alike. The immense scale of this ride alone will be truly stunning."

WindSeeker will stand 301-feet tall making it the tallest attraction at the Carowinds theme park when it opens in Spring 2012.

Another feature of the new ride will be the amazing view of not only the amusement park, but the greater Charlotte region as well.

WindSeeker will be constructed in the Carolina RFD section of the park near the entrance to Snoopy's Starlight Spectacular. A portion of the lake near the Nighthawk rollercoaster will be filled in to accommodate this massive tower ride.

The ride will also incorporate an elaborate LED lighting system on to illuminate it at night. LED spotlights will light the tower and the ride's carriage will feature LED light strands that run out from tower and down each of the arms.

In the evening the attraction will be visible for miles as the LED lights create colorful patterns and shapes. WindSeeker will also be equipped with speakers on the ride's carriage that will play up to 18 different music tracks.

Construction on WindSeeker will begin this fall and the ride is anticipated to open in the spring of 2012.

WindSeeker is designed and manufactured by Mondial, a Dutch based amusement ride company. The attraction will accommodate up to 960 passengers per hour and have a 52-inch minimum height requirement.
