New Hypercoaster Planned for Six Flags Over Texas

Arlington, TX -- Texas roller coaster fans will be enjoying one more steel monster next year at Six Flags Over Texas. The new 245-foot tall hypercoaster will span nearly a mile in length according to details revealed at the Lone Star Coasterthon.

According to a spokeswoman the park is planning is to unveil the new roller coaster for the park's 40th anniversary. The new steel hypercoaster will be similar to Goliath, a new roller coaster that opened earlier this year at sister-park Six Flags Magic Mountain in Los Angles, California.

Goliath designed and built by Giovanola of Switzerland stands 235-feet, features a 255-foot initial drop and top speed of 85 mph.

According to details given at the Lone Star Coasterthon the new Texas coaster will be 245-feet tall and be just over a mile in length, slightly longer than the similar ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

At 245-feet the new hypercoaster would become the tallest roller coaster at Six Flags Over Texas, topping Mr. Freeze, which stands 218-feet.

Giovanola confirmed the building of the new attraction a month ago in the Star-Telegram and told the newspaper that the new coaster would have a top speed of 88 mph. The slight increase suggests that the Six Flags Over Texas coaster will have an initial drop taller than Goliath's 255-foot plunge.

Six Flags Over Texas is expected to officially announce the new attraction by the end of the year and the new hypercoaster is planned to open next Spring.
