Fans, Collectors to Gather For 2001 Disneyana Convention

Anaheim, CA -- A one-of-a-kind opportunity to acquire unusual Disney collectibles, meet legendary Disney personalities and celebrate with fellow Disney fans, the 2001 Official Disneyana Convention will take place Tuesday, September 4, through Saturday, September 8, at the Disneyland Resort, Anaheim, California.

Offering a wide array of limited-edition merchandise, one-of-a-kind auction items and hard-to-find Disney memorabilia, the convention will also bring Disneyana "ConventionEars" together with Disney artists and celebrities for an extensive series of seminars and workshops, as well as shopping and collecting opportunities. For 2001, the 100th anniversary of Walt Disney's Birth, the theme of the Official Disneyana Convention is "A Disney Family Reunion."

Interested Disney fans may purchase a full convention package, including all seminars, workshops, parties and sales, for as little as $950. A Convention Public Day, 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday, September 8, offers access to the Limited Edition/Logo Sale, Walt Disney Company Showcase, Artists' Showcase (appearances by creators of Disney merchandise) and Disney Antiques and Collectibles Show.

Participants in the full convention will have five days of receptions, parties, banquets, interactive workshops, in-person appearances by Disney legends, and the spectacular Disneyana Convention Auction, at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 6, where they may bid on a variety of Disney treasures including the 24-karat gold "Celebration Mickey Mouse" valued at over $1 million, the largest gold sculpture ever cast in the United States. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of "Celebration Mickey" will be used to provide trips to Disney resorts and cruises for children with life-threatening illnesses.

Highlights of the Disneyana convention include the Welcome Reception on the Sierra Lawn, Disneyland Hotel on September 4. A private party in New Orleans Square titled "A Reunion With A Real Kick (Cajun, That Is!)" on September 5 inside Disneyland Park. The official convention banquet at the Hollywood Pictures Backlot inside Disney's California Adventure on September 7.

Limited Edition Sale -- Wednesday through Saturday, September 5-8, South Exhibit Hall, Disneyland Hotel. Internationally renowned artists from around the world have created unique merchandise exclusively for the convention.

Logo Store -- Wednesday through Saturday, September 5-8, South Ballroom, Disneyland Hotel. An assortment of special merchandise featuring the "A Disney Family Reunion" theme and the 2001 Official Disneyana Convention logo.

Disneyana Antiques and Collectibles Show -- Tuesday through Saturday, September 5-8, Marina Ballroom West, Disneyland Hotel. Independent collectors and galleries offer Disney memorabilia dating back as far as the 1920s.

Walt's Garage -- Wednesday through Saturday, September 5-8, Lower Exhibit Hall, Disneyland Hotel. A grab bag of merchandise, toys, buttons, collectible paper, etc. that has been discovered in Disney warehouses.

Artists' Showcase -- Friday and Saturday, September 7 and 8, North Exhibit Hall, Disneyland Hotel. Limited Edition Artists and Walt Disney Attractions Merchandise artists and sculptors will greet fans and ConventionEars.

Walt Disney Company Showcase -- Thursday through Saturday, September 6 through 8, Marina Ballroom East, Disneyland Hotel. Divisions of the Walt Disney Company, including the Disneyland Resort, Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Walt Disney Records, the Disney Stores and Walt Disney Art Classics will show off their latest developments.
