San Diego, CA -- SeaWorld San Diego announced the birth of a baby killer whale born on December 21, 2004 at approximately 9:22 a.m. Kasatka, a 28-year-old killer whale gave birth to the healthy looking calf that is estimated to weigh between 300 and 350 pounds and measure 6 to 7 feet.
A number of SeaWorld employees were present to witness the birth on the giant screen at Shamu Stadium. The calf was born in the Shamu Stadium's main pool under the watchful eyes of SeaWorld's zoological team members.
The birth marks the fifth killer whale to be born at SeaWorld San Diego and the 19th born in the SeaWorld family of parks. The newborn brings the San Diego park's killer whale population to eight.
