Sandusky, OH -- Cedar Point officials have closed the Top Thrill Dragster roller coaster after an incident injured four riders.
According to reports four riders sustained minor injuries from flying shards of metal. The injured were initially treated by the park's First Aid, but two sought further medical attention at a local hospital.
Reportedly the metal debris flew loose from a cable beneath the track that is used to launch the rides trains. The injured riders were struck while launching. Top Thrill Dragster reaches a top speed of 120 mph before it ascends a 420-foot tower.
Cedar Point defended the park and rides safety record, but have closed the ride to conduct an investigation. It is unknown when the ride may reopen.
