Every year I like to look at which major roller coasters in North America are reaching significant "birth-years" and see which ones I will be "celebrating with" (riding) this season.

I think it's a neat list. Get ready to feel old...

With a little (lot) of help from RCDB and their "Advanced Search" feature, here's what I've come up with...

10 Years - 2004
-- Hellcat, Timber Falls
-- Coastersaurus, Legoland Florida
-- Gauntlet, Magic Springs
-- Half Pipe, Elitch Gardens
-- Hell Cat, Clementon Park
-- Nighthawk, Carowinds (relocated)
-- Revenge of the Mummy, both Universal parks
-- Silver Bullet, Knott's Berry Farm
-- Spinning Dragons, Worlds of Fun
-- Storm Runner, Hersheypark
-- Superman, El Ultimo Escape, Six Flags Mexico
-- Thunderhead, Dollywood
-- Whirlwind, Seabreeze

20 Years - 1994
-- Batman: The Ride, Six Flags Magic Mountain
-- Comet, Great Escape (relocated)
-- Desperado, Buffalo Bill's
-- Hoosier Hurricane, Indiana Beach
-- Hurler, both Carowinds and Kings Dominion
-- Raptor, Cedar Point
-- Zach's Zoomer, Michigan's Adventure

25 Years - 1989
-- Excalibur, Valleyfair
-- Magnum XL-200, Cedar Point
-- Ninja, Six Flags St. Louis

Would have turned 25 in 2014...
-- Great American Scream Machine, Six Flags Great Adventure
-- Hercules, Dorney Park
-- Viper, Six Flags AstroWorld

30 Years - 1984
-- Boomerang, La Ronde
-- Colossus Fire Dragon, Lagoon
-- Sea Serpent, Morey's Piers
-- Steamin' Demon, Great Escape
-- Tig'rr Coaster, Indiana Beach

Would have turned 30 in 2014...
-- Big Bad Wolf, Busch Gardens
-- King Cobra, Kings Island
-- Sarajevo Bobsled, SFMM & SFGAdv
-- XLR-8, Six Flags AstroWorld

35 Years - 1979
-- Beast, Kings Island
-- Corkscrew, Michigan's Adventure

Would have turned 35 in 2014...
-- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Disneyland
(being re-done in 2014)
-- Rolling Thunder, Six Flags Great Adventure
-- Wildcat, Cedar Point

40 Years - 1974
-- Runaway Mine Train, Six Flags Great Adventure
-- Trailblazer, Hersheypark
-- Woodstock Express (Scooby Doo), Kings Dominion

45 Years - 1969
-- Cedar Creek Mine Ride, Cedar Point
-- Mini Mine Train, Six Flags Over Texas

50 Years - 1964
-- Blue Streak, Cedar Point
-- Montana Rusa, La Feria Chapultepec

Would have turned 50 in 2014...
-- Jetstream, Riverview Park
-- Mr. Twister, Elitch Gardens

55 Years - 1959
-- Matterhorn Bobsled, Disneyland

Would have turned 55 in 2014...
-- Comet, Rocky Glen Park

85 Years - 1929
-- Dragon Coaster, Rye Playland Park

90 Years - 1924
-- Giant Dipper, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
-- Thunderbolt, Kennywood

To be noted, there are numerous famous wooden coasters from the early part of the 20th century, which are no longer with us, that would have been hitting a special birthday in 2014 as well.

I like weird stuff like this. It's not a chore...

Then of course, it was brought to my attention that ACE does this list every year, and posts it on the back of ACE News. That would have been a lot easier...

Can't wait for that Wild One to hit 100 in a few years. It's kind of nice having one of the oldest in my backyard.

That being said, here's my logical list this year:

10 Years - 2004
-- Storm Runner, Hersheypark

Would be riding its 15th if it was still here: Two Face. Hope you're doing well overseas my old, shoddy built friend.

20 Years - 1994
-- Hurler, Kings Dominion
-- Raptor, Cedar Point (I really hope I make it back to the point. I got rained out last time and didn't ride this)

25 Years - 1989
-- Magnum XL-200, Cedar Point (Again, it wasn't running when I went last year for the first time)

Would have turned 30 in 2014...
-- Big Bad Wolf, Busch Gardens (You're breaking my heart, drachen).

40 Years - 1974
-- Runaway Mine Train, Six Flags Great Adventure
-- Trailblazer, Hersheypark
-- Woodstock Express (Scooby Doo), Kings Dominion

45 Years - 1969
-- Cedar Creek Mine Ride, Cedar Point (Once again, see above)

50 Years - 1964
-- Blue Streak, Cedar Point

55 Years - 1959
-- Matterhorn Bobsled, Disneyland

90 Years - 1924
-- Thunderbolt, Kennywood (I need to make this a priority, to get to this park this year).

Awesome facts.

Some of those coasters that are getting up there in age are still awesome. Beast, Magnum, they are really holding great with time in my opinion.
