Please tell me VF rumor is false

I just read on screamscape that Valleyfair is rumored to be home to a Vekoma Boomerang in the future.

I really hope this rumor is false. Yeah, it's be nice to get another coaster. But a Boomerang? What's with Cedar fair and these things? They just installed one at WOF and now possible at VF?!

It just goes to show that cedarfair puts it cheaper investments more parks than others. I think it's amazing how blind Cedar fair has been with the potential that Valleyfair has. With 40 million tourists visiting the Mall of America every year with the park being right next to a few other tourist attractions (casino and horse racing track), the opportunity is there.

I just hope the rumors are false.

On one hand Bommerangs arn't very exciting for the seasoned enthusiast, BUT if Valleyfair! is your home park and you havn't gotten a new looping coaster in 20 years, probably anything like this would be exciting. I hope maybe they would chose an Invertigo instead of the traditional boomerang.

Me too hopes this rumor is false! Boomerangs are only good for smaller less popoular parks like Knoebels or Holiday World which can get by with a single train operation but VF can still get pretty busy on weekends and such a ride would have a one hour or more wait on a Saturday for such a lame boring ride!

It would be better than a traditional boomerang but capacity is still a problem on weekends and busy days! WT will have a shorter wait on a slow day than that inferior ride(Invertego or Bommerang)!

I'm sorry but boomerangs are not lame boring rides. If they were, would it be over 50 of them. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean others won't

Yeah, I want another really HOT coaster like that 30 MPH Mad Mouse :-P A 'family' coaster with a 42" height restriction - ruling out half the tykes that want to ride it!

And exactly what would a Boomerang be a step down from? A great-for-1976 Arrow corkscrew?

Yup, better believe it. This is a business, and when other parks serve larger markets, you invest more money there. You don't see Premier building hypers at Frontier City or Wyandor Lake, either--for the same reason.

Really? When? When they dropped $10 million on a hyper? Or $9 million+ on Power Tower this year?

I think you don't realize how much $$$ CF has spent in the Twin Cities. Remember that they also manage KCS in the Mall. See the Mighty Axe (Zamperla Rotoshake) and GhostBlasters? Add that to WT, the SkyCoaster, Chaos, the Galaxy Theater, Mad Mouse and PT. That's at least $30 MILLION in the past 5 years. You have nothing to complain about!

Mark Twain always said there are three kinds of lies--the worst of which are statistics. If two teens HANG OUT at the mall without spending a nickel twice a week, they've become 208 visitors! See how they come up with that wild number for MOA attendance?

Canterbury Park (the horse track) draws *nobody*. The Ford plant rents out half the lot to park freshly built pickups and it STILL looks abandoned. And I'd like to see you get one of those doddering casino grannies on a coaster.

Let's face reality.....in a park serving a two cities with a combined population under one million, a $10 million investment is a lot of cash. The following year or two will not be $10 million years. You're looking at something in the $2-3 million range--which will either be spin-and-spues or VERY small coasters. At that price range, Boomerang offers a good bang for the buck. And capacity is *not* an issue when a one-train Corkscrew only handles 600 pph anyway.

Besides, you're not thinking long-term. A Boomerang could not only replace the aging Corkscrew, but free up land in front of the park....which seems to be EXACTLY where they love to plop Raptor clones.

Think about the future! Pray for a Boomerang!

In my opinion this may get the ball rolling, VF needs anything it can get! If they get a boomerang following up with the power tower this year I would say we have a trend forming. After Boomerang they really wont need the puny corkscrew, they will have room for an inverted coaster of a really cool standup or something like that. I just see alot of good things coming from this. What do you think?

generally every park has a ride that you are not interested in.& that is the reason why cedar point has 14 different roller coasters.you choose the rides you like.the rides that you don,t like don,t stand in line for them.

Some people have posted that they are looking forward to a Boomarang at VF and that they could lose the 20 year old Corkscrew. I have to DISAGREE, why would you give up a ride that has the potential to handle the crowds for a ride that can only handle one set of cars. The only element the Boomarang is going to give you is the backward motion. Wouldn't you rather get an Inverted or Suspended? Something that would add new elements to the park.

Since when is a COBRA ROLL not a new element (half loop - reversal - half loop)? I sure don't see one on the Corkscrew.

And please read my post again about capacity not being an issue. The Corkscrew would handle 1300 people an hour with TWO trains running. Read the facts yourself:

http://www.valleyfair.com/rides/thrillrides/corkscrew.htm

I visit VF at least once a week and have done so for the past four years...during which time I have NEVER seen the Corkscrew run two trains. Meaning: It only handles 650 people per hour anyway -- much the same capacity as a Boomerang.

Also please reread my post and understand the pattern of capital expenditures at VF. They just spent $9 million plus on PT and it will be at least 3-4 years before that happens again. In the meantime, you're more likely to see $2-4 million per year spent on new rides. Do you know what inverted coasters cost? Standups? $10-12 million -- even for lousy Vekoma clones. VF'S NOT GETTING ONE IN THE NEXT 2-3 YEARS. WISH ALL YOU WANT. IT'S NOT HAPPENING. In the meantime, they can either get flat rides or VERY small coasters. For a price that low, they can either pick up a CCI woodie -- which wouldn't draw anyone who's been to WI Dells (where there are three) or Adventureland (where there are two) -- or a Boomerang which nobody has for hundreds of miles around.

In addition to clearing up land for a first-class invert, it would eliminate a potential nightmare in the future. WoF's Orient Express derailed last summer. CP's Arrow Corkscrew snapped a chain in late August -- and reliable sources have spotted welders working on the ride QUITE often in mid-season. Do we need to wait for VF to get a black eye next? Out with the old -- in with the new!

Start to see the big picture -- Boomerang now, Raptor later!
