It's Thurs July 13th @ PKI. The time is 10am......

....... and we are there when the ropes drop. We run for The BEAST and we get to the queue lines.

Being the first ones on a weekday in July, can anyone (who is familiar with PKI crowds) tell me what kind of lines we can expect at Beast.

I realize that most people will rush for SOB, but would it be reasonable to expect to get on BEAST within 15 minutes or so?

How about Face / Off?

Okay okay... and what do you think the crowds will be like for SOB between 10am and 11am on a THURSDAY (July 13th)?

In my experience with PCW, the first hour is always the best time to get onto rollercoasters in record time.

At PCW, the park starts to really fill in from 11am - 1pm. Thereafter, the incoming crowd is not as intense. Is this what its like at PKI?

Also.... when is the best time to ride BEAST? I've heard that the first half runs slow in the day but is an absolute terror as the day cools and night arrives. TRUE OR FALSE?

Any info / suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanx,

Roxy

Well if it's 10AM then there's already a line. The gates open at 9AM and by 9:30 there is a 20 minute line already (line for the Beast forms at the split in the pathway near the carousel ... I think the big floral clock is there). But at that time of morning the line moves quickly. The rides open at 10AM.

In mid-July we'll likely be in the middle of a heat wave, and the park may not be all that crowded, especially on a weekday.

Yes, SOB will draw much of the crowd away from papa beast. It's difficult to say how long the lines will be but you can be sure there WILL be lines forming before 10AM for each of the following: DZ, F/O, SOB, and Beast. Pick which one you will most want to ride first. (See Beast below...)

SOB is likely to have the longest lines this year ... maybe 2 hours on a weekday.

True, same here. Lines are light in the AM and fill up quickly in the early afternoon. There is a bit of a let-up around dinnertime and then another crowd after the waterpark closes.

You will DEFINITELY want to ride the Beast at night. My favorite time to ride is right at dusk. The line is predictably 40 minutes. Get in line about 8:15 to 8:30. You will still have time afterwards for some other ride (like A/E, which is also great at night).

Enjoy your visit!!

You could join ACE and request a walkback to Beast and avoid the rope drop. I like I said before - get to the park early and that will give you a few minutes to explore the areas not sectioned off by the ropes.

Like He Said by 10 there will already be a long line .....when the gates open @ 9 they start Lines for Face/off, Drop Zone, SOB, Beast, And Vortex and then that line is walked back @ 10:00

After re-reading your post I realized that there's one question that I had not answered...

Yea you could get on Beast in 15 minutes but then afterwards you'd face long lines for the other major rides. It would probably be best to rush to either SOB or Face/Off and save papa beast for later. Note that if you have a Paramount season pass (as you may have for PCW) then you can go to the front of the line for any ride in the Action Zone area before the rides open (check the link below).

Last year it only took 20-30 minutes to get the "first ride" on Face/off, but then the line would be 1 to 2 hours for the rest of the day. Same for Drop Zone, which also tends to be more enjoyable later in the evening, at least for me anyway. It's difficult to say how the draw of SOB will affect the other lines, but my advice would be to ride SOB first, then Face/Off, then the rest of the park. Also note that Top Gun and Vortex are both good rides and the lines move very quickly.

Sorry, but that head-of-the-line feature is only good during April and May. I apologize for the mistake.

What do you mean by "then the lines are walked back?" Could you clarify this as a few ideas come to mind with this expression.

Thanx

The 9AM lines do not form at the rides themselves. Instead they form along the pathways which lead from the central Interntional street to the themed areas. Then at 10 when the rides open, one of the ride attendants escorts the line back to the actual queues. This is referred to as the walk back. Note that at this point there tends to be a good deal of "line jumping" as some people stroll back and others run, cutting in front of others who may have been waiting longer.

Then there is also the Beast walkback (and this year the SOB walkback also), sometimes called Ace walkback or Voss walkback (originated by Ruth Voss) for card-carrying Ace members. They meet at the guest relations window by the front gate and are "walked back" to the head of the GP line which has already formed for the Beast, which forms behind the Eifel Tower near the floral clock.

The meeting spot is actually at what use to be the Glass Blower's Shop. It is the first building to your right as you are facing the fountains. It should be easy to spot, just look for the ACE plaque embedded in the ground and a group of people wearing various forms of coaster wear.
