..at any theme/amusement park? A ride or anything else? I saw the new release of the movie in 3D/IMAX today (absolutely stunning) and got to wondering about this on my drive home. I know it was/is(?) one of the scenes in the Great Movie Ride at Disney, but I'm wondering about a stand-alone attraction...

There was a mountain top theme park in Beech Mountain, NC called the 'Land of Oz'. According to messynessychic and wiki, there was an artificial hot-air balloon ride (modified ski lift). Also there's a youtube vid with people touring the old abandoned park at the bottom of the page.

Google "coney island cincinnati land of oz"... my childhood park.

IIRC it wasn't specifically themed to the movie... did not have Emerald City or any of the characters, but was the name of the park's children's area. BTW this is the park that was bought out and moved to where Kings Island is now.

Good stuff, guys. Thanks!

When I was a kid, in the 70's-early 80's, there was an arcade on the Atlantic City Boardwalk called the Land Of Oz. My mom and dad used to leave me there while they did other things along the boardwalk, went to eat, etc..my dad usually had meetings. Even after the casinos came in 1978, the place lasted a few more years. Long gone now.

From the photos I've seen, it looks like Michael Jackson's Never Never Land was designed to look like Oz.

Once upon a time, there was a proposal for one near Niagara Falls.

There were plans in the early '00's for a theme park built in the Buffalo area based on the Wizard of Oz that fell through.

We just returned from seeing this in 3D/IMAX and it is amazing how well it was presented. A bit of background noise during straight dialogue, that and the old vertical aspect ratio were the only giveaways to the production era, otherwise it could have been made in the 1980's.

Of course, this is the first time most anyone under the age of 80 has seen it on the big screen, other than maybe a film festival. As this is a limited engagement I'd recommend everyone seeing this classic.
