Thanks Pat-O. Interesting... sad, but interesting. Some of those places looked pretty cool.

Good stuff Pat-O. I'm surprised that the defunct 'Disney's River Country' in FL wasn't featured.

I didn't know River Country was no longer...

I liked Typhoon Lagoon better anyway ;~)

As protective as Disney is of their backstage areas in their operating parks, someone must have had some CRAZY connections to get close enough to take these pics of a defunct park on Disney property.

Up until recent years, Heritage USA in Charlotte NC stood in ruins. It was the infamous waterpark/resort built by Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker's PTL Club. Once the PTL scandal hit, Jerry Falwell took the reigns of the Bakker ministry. He tried to "reinvigorate" the resort, even pulling a publicity stunt where he slid down the waterslide in his 3-piece suit. Oy vey!

Eventually, the resort couldn't outlive the scandal and closed. It was bought out by a foreign company, and operated as a non-religious themed park for a while, I believe. However after it failed, the waterpark, hotel and unfinished properties all stood like a ghost town for years and years.

There were all sorts of plans proposed for the grounds/buildings over the years. But nothing significant came of them AFAIK. Last year, I checked google earth, and the "Island" on which the waterpark was built had finally been cleared.

Of note... Heritage USA was literally right down the Interstate from Carowinds.

Here's a link to videos of the property:
