I hesitated to even type this out, because I don't want to upset too many people on here. I can imagine some people having a hard time coping with this, but here it goes anyway....

I did not go to Kings Dominion this year.

That's right. I didn't. For the first time in more than 20 years, I did not visit my favorite park this season. Nothing against the park, no boycott, just taking a break from parks in general.

Still, 20+ consecutive years of multiple visits isn't bad for never living closer than 3 1/2 hours away and most of the time living 5+ hours away.

Anyone needing help with this distressing news is welcome to contact me privately. :)

It was a very slim year for me as well, though I did visit a few parks. We have been going to Kings Island since 1977 and regularly (annually) since 1992... that's 20-25 years. This year I was there every week for work, but other than that only went as a guest a couple times.

I guess the thrill is gone.

We are however leaving tomorrow for two weeks in Orlando.

I don't blame you Jeff. That park sucks. ;)

Hope you got your power back.

There's nothing wrong with taking a lil' hiatus from a park. I never go to a same park year after year, there's just too much else out there that I haven't experienced yet.

Funny you mention that, Rob. I leave for Orlando shortly after Thanksgiving.

Have a great time.

Not funny. If you had told me even a year ago that the only park I'd go to during the "regular season" this year would be Darien Lake, I'd have laughed at you, but there you. Next year, I'll be back to KD I'm sure and Knoebels and I'm hoping for another Idlewild trip.

And I got my power back on Wednesday afternoon. Yay for that.

Thanks... you too!

Well how about this- "If (insert park here) needed a hotel, it would have already been built." No? Not funny? Hmmm... apparently that bit is a killer elsewhere.

Sorry if I ruffled your feathers Jeff. You know I never mean any harm in my good-natured ribbing of Kings Dominion.

:) Sure is. And it lasts even longer than Energizer batteries, Ray.

I neither find that funny nor chuckleworthy.

Nor Maverick.

p.s. Yep, that last part is stupid, too. :)

Have a bran muffin, Jeff.

At least I have a good excuse 1800Kms for me. Last visit to Wonderland for me was Halloween 2008. Sure hope to get there for 2012.

Kevin Reid

Actually our last (any) park visit was PPP 2010, we canceled this year's PPP one week before the event. I havent been to Kennywood since 2006 and it is 45 minutes from my house. I like many others who use to post here on URC just either dont have the time or found other things to do with our money and time. We have been traveling out to Vegas and other parts around the country and play more golf while on vacation than to find the easiest time to visit a park.
The interest of visiting parks like we use to do is long gone.

Sorry, I forget the acronyms of some places, but what is PPP?

Re: End of an Era by Overbanked Overbanked Profile at 11/5/11 1:02:32 AM

^^^Phoenix Phall Phunfest, an event at Knoebels. I only know because URCers talk about it so much. :)

I always visit a park in the fall. Last year we went to Cedar Point and Dollywood in Oct. This, is year my first coaster ride was May 26th and my last ride was Aug. 26th. Due to the stellar 2012 new coaster installations, I'm already trying to savesave money for next season. Also, like you, I have other hobbies and interests that keep me busy in the off season. My other passion, besides riding coasters , is fly fishing for Lake Erie Steelhead. With large quanities of fish entering the creeks, earlier than usual, I've been spending my free time fishing. I live 25in minutes from Kennywood in Monessen. Just curious to where you live at. Anyway, I like that change of pace. I have things all year round that I enjoy doing.

Like some others have mentioned, interest in visiting parks (at least compared to 10 years ago) has diminished greatly. Now, I have had a new reason/motivation to visit- my thrill-seeking (not quite) 2 year old daughter. Now we look forward to visiting kiddielands at parks. Syd is a Whip fanatic. Started on the kiddie whips at KW and Knoebels, but then we decided to take her on the big Whip at Knoebels during PPP weekend and you know we rode that thing more than anything else in the park. I logged 4 Phoenix rides total for the whole weekend, but 8 on the Whip.

Thanks! Yeah I've seen that acronym, but always forget to ask what it stands for as it doesn't fit the names of the parks that I know of.

Well, Mark, that's a different take on a man being "whipped!"

Since I'm Facebook trained, my first instinct was to "like" this comment. So I'll just type old-fashioned style "I like this comment."

According to the Off Topic Forum, Eric is considering implementing something like that.
