Poll - Nitro: male or female?

Since I wrote our TR I have really been struggling with this one for some reason. I never really thought about it much before and have usually referred to Nitro as "she". As I said in the TR the name seems more masculine but the colors of yellow and pink (actually fuchsia) are more feminine. So poll time: Do you think of Nitro as a "he" or "she"? (Maybe it's a hermaphrodite! LOL!)

Female. I think of all coasters as female. I don't ride males... :P

Its a male but the biggest WIMP I've ever ridden. Honestly theres nothing but some visuals like the first turn on the outside right that I like about it.

One of those BORING AND MEANINGLESS RIDES to which a majority of Beemers have become since.

Re: Poll - Nitro: male or female? by Overbanked Overbanked Profile at 8/5/11 7:42:20 PM

^^^That's what I thought about Apollos Chariot, that boring & meaningless feeling. When I rode Nitro it delivered good air on damn-near every hill, and total contrast from AP. It's funny concerning the varying opinions on B&M hypers.

Chuck, have you ridden Apollos Chariot? I'd be shocked if you like AP esp. since you dont like Nitro.

Will URC Nation have to start reffering to Nitro as Nitress since it's color scheme? :)

Coaster fanatic your top coasters are only wood so yeah, I don't see how you can have a top 10 without steel in it but hey, if it's not your cup of tea then I guess it's not.

I find it absolutely ridiculous that you find it "boring" though. I just got back from MI Adventure and shivering timbers was awesome, but not something that is better than nitro, where you have shivering timbers as number 3 on your list.

Just my opinion though.

But is it a boy or girl?! I don't care if he doesn't like it - I do! I hate overbanked woodies and some people love them - to each his own. I'm a steel girl personally (except for El Toro, which is not a real woodie IMO, none make my top ten so we're even). I just don't understand how people don't get airtime, especially in the back. It doesn't make any sense to me. I think you'd have to actively try and hold yourself in the seat not to get any but that's just my opinion.

So Mugen, is it a him or her to you? That's the question! It's a bit split since my vote is girl. Maybe she's a tom boy! LOL!

I haven't updated my top coasters in years and I rode Timbers at a Timbersfest. Trust me at 11PM that coaster is more airtime than on one hill than Nitros entire ride.

Yeah, Nitro is one of the beemers that to me don't have a lot of forces. The helix is pretty good but I got no airtime on both my visits on 8 separate rides. I liked Raging bull. Love Steel Force.

Maybe I just don't like being hugged around the waist compared to restraints that let you float a bit?

Chuck, saying if you like it, Fine, To quote CoasterDan. Condom Coaster. Everythings there but the feel

It's so funny how people see things so differently. I LOVE the seats on Nitro (and other B&Ms) because they make me feel so free - nothing to hold on to, legs dangling, free on the sides on the body, etc. And I float like crazy! I find most woodies very confining and uncomfortable, especially the rougher ones. I love racing-type woodies but even then I usually end up banged and bruised somewhere during the ride because of the small, boxed cars. Everyone's perspective is different I suppose.

And for the record, I thought Steel Force was HORRIBLE! LOL!

I'm with you Jen. I love the seats and restraints on the Beemer hypercoasters. I love all hypercoasters especially the Beemers and Intamin. I think Steel Force and the other 3 Morgan hypercoasters that I've ridden are the weakest. Nitro has great air time in any seat. Same goes for Goliath. Behemoth was El Toro quality air time. Intimadator, Diamondback, Apollos Chariot, and Raging Bull all are good rides in the back seat. I do love good, smooth wooden coasters. El Toro, Hades, and The Voyage are in my all coaster top 10 (steel or wood).

I love the seats, and it might be because I am '6"5 so a lot of wood coasters are pushing it for me as far as the leg room is concerned. As for airtime not being there on Nitro, I would have to say it's soley about the size of the person with regards to that I guess.

I am thin like a pole, not to say you aren't, but I don't touch my seat on any of the hills on Nitro. So that may be why our ride experiences are a lot different. I prefer coasters that reach decent speeds too. Sometimes being on a wood coaster although cool, just isn't enough speed sometimes. I love all coasters though and Nitro in my opinion is an awesome one at that.

To each their own.

haha definitely a HE!

I dunno, he's like my bro coaster if that makes sense. He's intense, but understands me in ways other coasters don't!

I think Nitro is a "he", but the kind of "he" that all the "shes" love. I know a couple of women who are all about Nitro.

<3 Awww, thank you Rob for asking!

Trip was amazing. Passed by the poor ol' defunct Dania Hurricane a gazillion times travelling to and from our home base of Hollywood Beach, FL. Got some pix of the wooden giant on my phone but they're not that great (taking them from I-95 doin' about 70mph lol).

My son ended up quitting his job (just a fast food joint) so he could join us mid-trip---I absolutely loved that! We are browner than we've been in ages. I miss the crystalline aquamarine ocean sooo much :(.

We accomplished quite a bit though:
**kayaking with manatees (never saw one, lol),
**got upcloseandpersonal with alligators along 'alligator alley',
**traveled to Key West and hung out there for an entire day
**met up with my sis who was vacationing 4 hours away in Daytona Beach
**went to Wonderworks in Orlando (fun place, but not what I expected)
**braved Big Cypress National Preserve (never saw a scorpion, panther, bear, OR gator, -things Florida rangers warned us about- lol)
**ended our trip at one of my fave beaches in all of Florida, along the panhandle, called Grayton Beach.

Did alot, relaxed so much it was tiring (hahaa) and now back home to reality and dogs that need brushed, carpets that need vacuumed, bills that need paid...*sigh*...you get the picture :)

Again..thanks for asking and for the 'welcome back' :D

I think it mostly goes by names for me, which is why I was so torn over Nitro. Looks feminine to me be name screams male.

Some "girl" coasters IMO are: Millie for MF, Medusa (she was a woman although apparently underwent a sex change to Bizarro), Nessie for Loch Ness Monster and people call Magnum Maggie. I would say Griffon is a male and Sheikra, his sister, a female. I think all the ones named after superheroes are whatever that superhero is (pretty much all male)- haven't seen a cat woman coaster yet. I think KK is a man, not only is he a king but a phallic symbol as well! ;~)

I think of wooden coasters as males for the most part. Can't think of any I'd consider female off the top of my head.

We should have a poll and list coasters and see who thinks of them as which gender over the winter when the site needs a pick-me-up!

Hmmm...since I'm a screamin' hetero, I'm finding it hard (lol seriously no pun intended!) to imagine that a GIRL COASTER gives me thrills. Hmmm.... hmmm....

SoB's testosterone dripped off of every timber imho, but again, that's another MALE.

Even though MF is affectionately referred to as 'Millie' (even by moi) I can honestly say for me it was in name only. I still see that virile burst of fun aggression as pure male, baby :).

Now you got me thinkin....hafta get back witcha on dat!

Maybe this thread just proves that coasters should remains as they are and be considered "its." lol

I personally think that the first "girl" themed coaster will be in Vegas. ...where it's legal to pay to ride girls. ;P

Yeah, my brain is a dangerous thing... lol

When medusa was medusa I considered it a SHE in both the name and the sense of gender.

It was just one twisted and crazy bitch!

Re: Poll - Nitro: male or female? by Schrecken Schrecken Profile at 8/13/11 1:30:22 AM

The dominant color scheme on Nitro is the blue and yellow; the deep pink is IMO more of an accent so I would never have thought of it as particularly feminine. I can't comment on the ride itself as I've never been to that park.

As for other coasters, I suppose one might consider that most, if not all, steel coasters would be masculine and wood coasters feminine, if only you are going by the material itself and nothing else. Wood is natural, earthy and organic, qualities that are historically (and symbolically) associated with being female. Steel (or historically, iron) is very hard, and in order to be created must be forged in fire, also a traditionally masculine "element". Indeed iron is associated with Mars, the Roman god of war.

But, when you throw in other attributes like names, color, associations, etc, things might be different. Launched coasters would logically be masculine, and especially ones like KK and TTD - everything about those screams "male". Others are a bit more ambiguous - what happens when you have a wood/steel hybrid coaster? If it's mostly wood like Gemini, are those twins girls? Or perhaps the blue side is male and the red female? Or the Voyage? Steel structure and wood track - if that woodie is a she, then that's the meanest, most ferocious lady I've ever met!

Some coasters, regardless of construction material, would strike me as female if I sat down and thought about it. Great Bear at HP could be feminine (perhaps a female bear?), as could what was the ice side of what used to be Dueling Dragons. Raptor at CP could be female, simply because it is the female bird of prey that's the biggest and the nastiest, rather than the male. Others are obviously male, like all the superhero names - Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, and other male connotations, like Raging Bull.

SFNE. If it's still there..I didn't check. I rode it. Really hot, kinky, fetishistic statue as a centerpiece.

But you wouldn't ride it, Doctor, because it's a "kiddie" coaster..statue notwithstanding.

Mike..who, based on photos, thinks Anne Hathaway will be a MUCH sexier Catwoman than Halle Berry or Michelle Pfeiffer...but they ALL pale in comparison to Julie Newmar!
