We all know Millie.
We all know Maggie.

I did not coin this one, but I kinda like it:

Timmy.

Yes? No? Stop it, Mike?

There is a thread of this somewhere. Most are derogatory or unflattering, though.

Those are the official names of each track. It's the same as Lion and Tiger for Gwazi and Lightning and Thunder for Lightning Racer.

Nicknames are unofficial and made up by enthusiasts.

I first saw that on the KD Fan Site and I can't stand it. it sounds really puerile but that seems to be a habit with Cedar Fair coasters (like Mavvie, Maggie and Millie which all sound like old lady names!)..

I'm just calling it I305 or 305 for short.

Yeah, as mentioned above, it wasn't my creation. I saw it on another site, although not the KD Fan Site you mentioned.

Also, Timmy may not be a great nickname, because something's needed to distinguish from its similarly monikered cousin to the south.

Timmy?
For a ride named after THE intimidator?
I had zero respect for that guy, but Timmy?
Seems kinda...oh, never mind.

I think I'll stick with I-305 as I've been calling it for months. "Timmy" kind of grew wimpy on me very quickly after I posted last night. No offense intended to the Tims and Timmys of the world, including cellocoasterdude or Corkscrew Foley..those guys are "Tim's," though....

That's not bad. A "highway coaster" beats a "parking lot" coaster!

I don't like the nickname Timmy for Intimidator either, but if you say it like they do on South Park is sounds just a wee bit better.

I like how a coaster enthusiast can say, "I rode Maggie and Millie back to back for over an hour...enjoyed all the banging and never got tired." And there is nothing dirty about that!

I love kinda krap!
collosus-collapsus, great name for a wood ride.
Terminated: salvation of the job, ok that ones dumb unless you worked at that ride.
How about a really dumb one, X- what did it used to be called? Get it?
The discussion a month or so ago was what would YOU name a ride? but all the neck snapper/back breaker etc names would not entice anyone to go on them, so making up funny names is great.

When I think of people who nickname amusement rides, I immediately think of Mrs. 1001 Nachts. Not that there's anything wrong with that....

When I think of Timmy, I immediately think of the South Park character of the same name.

There are so many coasters, sometimes ones that you never rode fly under the radar.

A B&M invert with just 3 inversions? It was built in 1993, the year after Batman(SFGAM) debuted...It has less than 2300 ft of track...It's none other than the mighty Flight Deck(CGA).

I'm dubbing this coaster (that I haven't ridden, but have knowledge on LOL)...."Robin: The Ride".

Re: Coaster Nicknames by alpengeistno3 at 8/17/13 1:23:08 AM
After the big Banshee presser introducing Banshee as the 1st female inspired coaster in the Cedar Fair chain, can we still call Magnum "Maggie" and Millennium Force "Millie"?

Re: Coaster Nicknames by Schrecken Schrecken Profile at 8/17/13 2:01:01 AM
I met a guy when I went to California's Great America who referred to the Grizzly as "square wheels", which, as I recall, was an apt description of that coaster.

Then there was the inverted boomerang Face-Off, which I had heard some people refer to using another word that starts with the letter "F".

I have a couple of nicknames I've made up for a select few coasters:
I refer to Shockwave at KD as the Pelvis Cracker, and Maverick as "Muhammed Ali the Ride" - in other words, it hits you in the head with a barrage of knock-out punches!

Re: Coaster Nicknames by Cyclone_Phil Cyclone_Phil Profile at 8/17/13 2:21:56 AM
Paul, i guess since those coasters are 'gender neutral' you can still call them that.

As for my list:
S:uf = superman underwhelming flight
Rolling thunder = screeching lumber (sorry, but it was just bad when i rode in 2008).
Anaconda = anacrapper

From Great Adv. over the years I've heard:
Rolling Thunder=Rotting Lumber
Viper=Lawsuit:The Ride
G.A.S.M.=Or-GASM
....and probably more than I could remember...
Re: Coaster Nicknames by AngryGumball at 8/17/13 6:57:13 PM
For CGA:
Goldy - Gold Striker
Turdly - Grizzly
Dropper - Drop Tower
Flight Gun - Flight Deck
Rue Le Wrist Snap - Rue Le Dodge (also just call it Wrist Snappers)

Gilroy Gardens:
Snakey -Timber Twister
Quicky - Quicksilver Express

Any other snake-themed coaster is also Snakey btw :)

I know they're almost mirror images of each other except looking at KD's POV on youtube, there are extra hills and a tunnel, while CGA's is more toned down, hence it being a bore.

YES! We need more West Coasters! While it's nice that we all can discuss the rides we've been on and have the opportunity to meet up every now and then it would be nice to get perspective on the West Coast side, especially since when we rank and review West Coast coasters it's usually from a one day park trip and we all know that impression can be skewered by a lot of things. I find it's a lot more accurate from people who frequent the parks.

Welcome!

I don't like the nickname Timmy for Intimidator either, but if you say it like they do on South Park is sounds just a wee bit better.

Timmay!

Rick W - AirBear (and also remember to respect Cartman's authority)

Exactly what i was thinking as i scrolled through this post. I picture a full train of riders all yelling "Timmay!!! TIMMAY!! timmay!!" leaving the station hahahaha. I think i could dig it.

Gatesleeper? Ouch! Can't see myself falling asleep on that one ever.

I've never cared much for the negative nicknames for coasters. Not a big deal, but something that is just a pet peeve of mine.

I started a post stating that once and searched for it this morning to discover that it was 11 years ago. Talk about making you feel old. At least I remembered posting. :)

Well, yeah, there's that :)

The amusement park rises bold and stark
Kids are huddled on the beach in a mist...

Someone on here (I forget who) used to call the Coney Island Cyclone "Mom"...

I heard that the two coasters which makes up Space Mtn(WDW)is named called 'Alpha' and 'Omega'; Are those official names (like Lion and Tiger makes up Gwazi) or are they only enthusiast-made nicknames?

I haven't been to WDW since 1986,but from what I remember, the coasters were called that.Back then there was a single queue zigzagging in a dimly lit tunnel until you reached a twin switchback area;this area was were you could look up and see part of the track itself, and also were you could see the Peoplemover moving along the elevated track
Getting back to the original subject-when you reached the twin-sided interior queue area,an overhead sign stated the left side was "Alpha"and the right one was "Omega".

About halfway down the page linked below is a picture pointing to alpha and omega.

I never took note of names for the sides but probably have seen the sign a few times.

Miceage Space Mountain with Alpha and Omega

It's long gone but I always called Viper at SFGAdv - "Diaper". The name suited it.

Then there are all the others listed above.

I've heard it called "The Ride Of Rust" and "The Ride Of Pain" numerous times!

Jeff, I do respect your positive outlook but you have to admit, there are some coasters that actually deserve the negative nickname. Heck, it's all in fun.

Joe, I remember you feeling that way. I think we even discussed it in person back in the day.

I'm not sure I can explain why I feel that way, but it just irks me. Even when people call Bizarro Medusa because they refuse to call it Bizarro makes me cringe for some reason. Perhaps because my last name is a tough one I'm just a little sensitive to the subject?

In any event, I'm not judging those who do use the negative names at all. I know it is all in fun.

Yes, we did and I totally respect your opinion.
I also call Bizarro Medusa. Sorry, that's how I know it.
