Alright,

So if you remember a while back I talked about a fantasy amusement park thing that would've been pretty fun. But since I have nothing better to do, I've decided to make a draft. I have used this method based on what I have seen on another forum (a Cavs forum my friend frequents(if you remember, the one who can't ride coasters until he's 18)). It is pretty simple. Anyone who wants to sign up, maybe a ten person limit for a league, signs up and gives their team (in this case, a park) a name. We'll draft coasters according to a category for each round in the order of who signed up. For fairness, as in any draft, whoever goes first in the first round, goes last in the second. The order of drafting will just reverese every round. When we are done, we can discuss and vote on who's park is the best based on their choices.

First comes first serve (in the first round at least). So the first ten can sign up and we can either do this over and over with new categories or specifics, or we can say "that was a waste, let's do something else".

So sign up if you care and let's get this going.

1. -Ethan- (haven't thought of a name yet)

BTW, if anyone can't think of a name yet or wants to change it, go ahead, nothing is set in stone so it doesn't matter.

Have fun with it, any coaster in existence (I guess we can go with retired ones as well although that probably wouldn't help in most categories).

I'll choose the subject (as in classic woodie or modern coaster or looping etc.) for each round giving us a wide variety in each park.

Well,

I guess no one's interested. If either you didn't feel like it then or you just haven't gotten around to saying anything yet, go ahead now. But I'm guessing I'll just forget it cause no one cares. No big deal, maybe I'll try somewhere else, but I doubt it.

I'd be interested Ethan. It sounds like a fun idea. I have seen something like this on another website but I didn't participate in it. I hope others on the forum will sign up too, because it seems like a fun idea. So sign me up!

Woot Woot!

It just looked like plenty of people looked at it and no one was interested. But it seemed that as time went on, either people forgot about it or ignored since no new posts came up on it.

Thank you for signing up and taking part this time. My friend does this on his forum frequently, with music artists, sports, and a other stuff, so why not give this a whirl.

Now, maybe I'll have something to do on the computer instead of just checking my e-mail seven times a day... wow, I'm a loser. But that's alright I guess.

Chances are in fact (at least on days when I have nothing going on), I was understating it. Today was one of those days.

But Mike, are you gonna sign up? Plenty of spots open (unfortunately lol).

To be very honest with you, Ethan, and I think we all try to be honest on here..I don't understand it well enough to say I'd participate. Maybe as it gets rolling, if it does, I'll be able to pick it up and maybe join later..you know, like a mid-season kind of thing.

Well,

Maybe I didn't explain it well then. It is pretty simple. Whe we have a designated few who are ready, we take turns picking a roller coaster to add to your list. These coasters will be what you claim to be in your park. Everyone picks a coaster from a gategory I'll choose, like stand-up, or hyper coaster, etc.. Then, we will continue going round and round til everyone has ten coasters. The order of picking rides will be determined by who signs up. The first person on teh list (myself), will choose first. In the second round, the order is reversed for fairness, so I will pick last. We switch the order back and forth until all rides have been chosen.

When finished making our parks from the draft, we can vote or at least discuss who has the best park or who has the best park when it comes to a certain aspect of ride etc..

If you understand it better now, you might as well join up and hope it gets rolling or otherwise ignore it. Either way, it's just a little game I think would be fun and hope we can try something a bit different around here.

If not, whatever.

BTW, nice trip report. Glad you had a good time.

All right, I'll do it. Sign me up. I'm not 100% sure of what I'm doing, but tell me what to do, and I'll do it. I'm not completely sure if I'll be able to participate a whole heck of a lot because College starts this week (I move in on Thurs., and start classes on the next Mon.) I'll start spending my time with a job (ugh), bills (ugh, ugh), and, of course, essays/other classwork(UUUUUUUUGGGHHHH!!!). But, on the bright side, I HAVE TESTED OUT OF MATH FOR MY MAJOR (computer graphics)!!! No math for meeeeee!!!

BTW, Ethan, I'm with you on the whole NERD thing. I wasn't in Marching Band though (not available at first, and then got a NAZI director), but I was in concert/pep band. =)

I'll admit, i didn't post my interest in this idea the first time i read it because no-one else had...but now the ice seems to be broken, so I'm in! haha

I like Tims idea too about being able to choose to have a different type of coaster than the type currently elected...building on that though...
Can't we just choose from ALL coasters every week? That way if we don't want a certain type of coaster...or would like more than one of one type of coaster we can. It'd make our parks more of our own, and make it more fun i think. It'd also take some weight off your shoulders. Just an idea though. Im in for anything though :)

I've got an idea. Why don't ya give us like three different ride types esch time. You'd still be limiting it, which is more challenging, but you'd also be freeing it up a bit (so people aren't forced to have a stand-up if they don't want to). I personally wouldn't mind a stand-up though.

I don't know. Just a thought,

Ethan, I don't want to make this complicated, but when we choose a coaster, can we choose the company too? I mean, there'll be those who want different kind of wood, invert, hyper (would this count with Jr. Hypers?) etc etc.

Tim.

Re: URC Draft! by Ethan Ethan Profile at 8/13/07 11:19:34 AM

Do you mean that a person in the draft picks a company, or I decide on a company that makes the ride?

Also, that could be a good idea. For two rounds I could have two categories so that you could have two of what you like, or both depending on your preferences. That could be interesting.

Ethan,
Does all of this play out in a thread so every once can watch the development?
Eric

>>> Yes, Eric, all events will take place in this thread so you can watch the development. In fact, anyone can put in their two cents when it comes to voting and/or discussing at teh end of the draft.

Plus, if we like it enough, we can do it over and over again with different subject or types of rides, etc. We could even have a draft of parks.

And after thinking it over, I'm not positive on the system I want to use when it comes to categories or lack there of, but I know that any other subject would be bad for my system. If we had a music draft and the category was country, which I dislike, I wouldn't even want that on my team, so why force me to pick it.

I think the two category per round idea is a good one, and maybe I'll just leave at a all around draft pick for any coaster from any park for ten rounds.

But it all depends on what you think. What do you guys want? I'd like for all of your opinions to be a part of this too.

Yo i would like to be signed up too, either respond here or email me, I was really thinking about it this morning and thinking about the picks I'd make lol.

>>> Alright, that makes you number 9, leaving us with one spot open.

And once again I find a dilemna as to how to do categories, or throw them out the window. I think it would be easier to choose from a category than pick a coaster from all coasters. Especially the first pick. It would be hard (except for you Voyage fans) to pick a number one coaster out of them all and I think the dual category method is best. That way, you won't get stuck with something you don't want, such as a stand-up, but you don't have such a hard decision like #1 coaster above all.

If anyone has a problem with this speak up and bring new ideas to the table. Until we have spot ten filled we can't even start so we should get this figured out.

I'll join in as well.

Eric

Re: URC Draft! by Ethan Ethan Profile at 8/13/07 1:52:53 PM

Cool,

That means all spots are filled with Eric joining at NUMBER 10!

Aliright, the order for the first round is:

1. Ethan (myself)
2. cjeagle35 (Patrick, unless you go by another name or just stick to your screen name)
3. Rollercoaster_freak220 (Josh)
4. Corkscrew Foley (Tim)
5. beastmaster (Mike)
6. Fastfly (Ry)
7. Overbanked (Chris)
8. BRossano23 (Bill)
9. duxstar (IDK)
10. Eric_Gieszl (Eric... obviously)

The categories for the first two rounds are classic woodies and steelies. This means woodies from before 1970 and steelies from before 1980.

First I'd like to encourage everyone to name their park or team etc. when they wish, though it isn't required by any means, and can be changed or named during any part of the game.

If anyone has objections to the category system, I'll give you some time and a little warning before we start off. I want everyone to be happy with this, so I might as well go with whatever system you find best fit for the job.

Until I'm sure everyone's ready, I'll wait to start the game off with my first pick.

Thanks to everyone who has joined in,
-Ethan-

No, pick one per round, but those categories last for two rounds. And yes, you may pick defunct coasters, but depending on the reason they got shut-down, it isn't a great choice. In this classic coaster categories, that can be a good idea though.

So, go for it.

Re: URC Draft! by Ethan Ethan Profile at 8/13/07 9:25:37 PM

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

I have the solution to the whole category thing. I was talking with my friend (the one who can't ride coasters and showed me the draft on his forum) and I have the resolving of our dire situation. Maybe I'm sounding too dramatic.

Well, here's how it is going. You can pick any coaster out of the entire universe for every round. The only rule is:

The limit of the amount of steel, wooden, or inverting roller coasters is 5.

You cannot have more than 5 woodies (coasters with wooden tracks).

You cannot have more than 5 steelies (from mine trains to air-time machines).

You cannot have more than 5 inverting coasters (any coaster that flips someone 360 degrees).

You can pick up to ten coasters whether they are still around or defunct (no future rides please) but you can have no more than half of your rides be of the same category. You don't have to have a stand-up, you can replace it with another woodie Tim.

Also, I am using a number randomizer to sort the order each round. So here is the OFFICIAL ORDER OF ROUND 1!!!

1. Josh
2. Ethan
3. Patrick
4. Eric
5. Chris
6. Mike
7. Duxstar
8. Tim
9. Bill
10. Ry

So Josh, take it away.

Also, the policy to keep the draft moving is that you have 48 hours to make your pick, and then will get a friendly e-mail notice. After 4 days, you get a warning. After a week, your park will be inherited by whoever is on the alternative list.

THAT MEANS ANYONE ELSE READING CAN SIGN UP AND REPLACE WHOEVER DOESN'T MAKE PICK AFTER A WEEK! KEEP TELLING ME IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, YOU MAY STILL HAVE A CHANCE TO PLAY!

I hope this system will resolve any issues so that everyone can feel free when making choices and still have a variety of rides in their park.

-Ethan-

If it goes that way, I'll have to start cheating! Terminology of coaster types and identifying by manufacturers are NOT my strong points, as I've established previously on this forum.

By the way, am I the elder statesman of this little posse of ten?..in terms of AGE, that is, not coaster/URC experience.

Nice choice, a good headliner for your park.

> -Josh

That means I'm up next.

I will be making a choice that is kinda tough. It seems that many people are saying that Maverick is the steel equivalent or even better than the Voyage, but due to the fact that around here, most votes are still to Voyage (which is probably a more reliable ride than a launcher for a park), I'm choosing The Voyage as my first coaster in... Buckeye Park. That's what I've decided to name my park.

This will be reposted at the start of each round for us to keep track of order, park names, and our choices. You can see when you have a pick in each round. As you see, the order is flipped each time after the initial randomized order I made. Here it is officially and you will see your picks on it at the end of round 1.

I'll keep updating it so when you see it next it should have all park names chosen and all that good stuff.

Up next, Patrick, or cjeagle35. Take it away.

-Ethan-

Note: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE READ THE PSA BEFORE DRAFTING SO AS TO NOT BE STUCK WITH A COASTER CHOICE YOU DIDN'T WANT!

Boy, did I call that one.

I was thinking all day about my strategy for choosing and through Maverick as my next choice out teh window, because Cj's next and it's his number 1.

I know this sounds fan-boyish, but four coaster have been chosen, half from CP, does that say something.

Naw, I won't be like that. Especially since the other half represents the other side of the coin, woodies from small parks.

Nice choice Eric and CJ. I'm kinda glad that I chose Voyage since Mavvie seems liek your coaster based on you TR. And I have never heard anything but positive from Phoenix, so awesome.

Mike, sorry sorry sorry. I was confused myself at first. Reading the PSA clears up the category business. As for the randomizer, I meant that I took teh original order (the order that everyone signed up in) and randomized. I then flipped the order back and forth for each round. If it's still hazy, go ahead and say it, I wanna keep you in Mike :)

I believe what Ethan said (or at least how I understood it), was that each park is limited to 15 coasters.

5 wood
5 steel non-inverting (hypers, mine trains)
5 steel inverting

But Ethan, please correct me if I'm wrong.

> And WHAT randomizer? In every round, I'm drafting either #5
> or 6!

Its the simple fantasy football draft system. Names are randomized, then selected in order. After the first round, the draft goes in reverse order. So the person that picks #1 then has to wait till pick #20 to go again, and the person that picks #10, goes again as pick #11.

Re: URC Draft! by Overbanked Overbanked Profile at 8/14/07 9:21:45 PM

With the fifth overall pick, the coaster that's going to Technology Park is Top Thrill Dragster.

Re: URC Draft! by Ethan Ethan Profile at 8/14/07 9:24:46 PM

Close... so close CJ.

Alright, everyone gets 10 coasters. You have a limit of 5 of those coaster types (wood, hyper, and inverting) so taht you have the freedom of choice, but still have a variety in coasters. That way, we don't have one park with all wooden coasters and on park with all loopers, but the parks are still very personalized.

Any other questions shoudl be stated when you think of them to clear the air. The more that is taken care of soon the better. That way, we have less trouble later. This is a first time for all of us, so it's alright, just try to keep up with my posts so you don't get TOO confused.

Once we get the hang of it we should have smooth sailing.

BTW, Mike it's now your turn so get your questions out there this post.

Are we taking roller coasters that we think are the "funnest" or does historical value, and standards from the past count 2. For example the Magnum, obviously its still a great coaster, but it is no longer one of the TOP 5 like it used to be. Apply that to all older coasters too.

Good question. It all depends on what you think. If a coaster is sentimetal or historically important, by all means, put it in your park. It's your choice. many people may vote based on the fun factor, but around here people usually look at all aspects of a ride, including historical value when rating a ride. So go ahead for historical purposes if that's what will make the park more to your liking or more personal to you.

That's what this is really about, what rides would you have in your park.

Yeah, yeah, but as long as you go under the ropes and leave the ring, you're still in... does that mean I can unofficially make my pic? ;)

I wouldn't steal yours if you said it,Chad(?..I think)...unless I wanted to!..or just to be a pain in the you-know-what.

OK..here goes!..first, my LATEST question. How does one decide WHERE to post his pick? Should it be in reply to the person preceding him in the draft, in reply to the last post on the thread, or like this one, a bit random?..does it really matter? I know Ethan will read every post..he's showing a lot of initiative and doing a mighty fine job so far!

And I understand the order thing, Ethan...I'm about halfway between 1-10 whichever way you flip 'em.

All right..with the #6 pick in the URC draft of Summer '07, Mike Gallagher of Bayonne, NJ selects his fellow Jersey resident with the name from Spain, your friend and mine, the pride of Jackson,... EL TORO MAGNIFICO!...since Kings Point Lake Park is a total fantasy, I'll allow myself the luxury of saying EL TORO in MY park will ALWAYS have TWO train operation with nary a breakdown, and will ALWAYS have a wet track...I'll put in a sprinkler system!

It doesn't matter at all. If the pick is on this thread, it'll make it onto my list. Thank you BTW, I'm trying to get it organized to a point where everyone knows what they are doing and all picks are kept up with.

Nice, I thought you'd pick that based on your top ten list. I wasn't sure if you were going to secure the Beast or not though, since it seems to have a personal value as well as a universal one.

Not as long as I'M involved!!! HAH!..but seriously, folks, going back to the PSA, Ethan..I guess as you described it,..it's like one of those SAT logic questions..if all inverts are steelies and some steelies are inverts, someone who hates woodies could have a park with ten steel coasters, because five of them would be inverts, even though they're made of steel...Right?

You know me too well, my friend..and we'll see how later rounds play out...Ethan,have you given a lot of thought to what happens at the end? Maybe you could do a post listing all ten rides at each participant's park and have the non-drafting URC public vote on whose park is best?

Yes I have actually. I might as well tell everyone. We will vote based on five different subjects. We can discuss and talk further, but this will still be a contest. Not much of a prize though.

The five categories are:

Coolest Park (as in best names, looks, and themes, not about the riding experience at all)
Most Unique Park (which park has weird or different coasters, this may also be judged based on historical value of rides)
Park with Best Wooden Coasters (obvious)
Park with Best Steel Coaster (obvious)
Park with Best Inverting Coaster (also obvious)

After these awards are given out, we'll vote on best park overall.

Voters are not limited. Any person is allowed one vote, whether they are contestants or spectators. I think around here we should have big trouble with people voting just for their park in every category. Also, I'll give like a week time limit to get votes in or something, tally up, and announce the winners (although if you read the posts it's obvious).

You gave away too much..haven't you ever heard of "leave 'em wanting more?!?"

I don't think the ten "architects"..that's what we should see ourselves as!.. should have a vote, and I don't think you can call anything obvious yet when we're still in the first round...one voter might pick a park because a few of their favorite coasters are "there,"..another may pick a park because he/she has ridden NONE of the rides at that "park," so it's a whole new experience...Since we're all "amongst friends" I don't think skewed voting will be an issue of any sort...and definitely no "big trouble," as you put it above.

Keep it going..you're doing a bang-up job!

Yeah,

I thought that the category of awards should have been announced earlier anyway since they may be a part of someone's strategy, unless you meant something else. But either way, a first time doesn't need to e perfect and has proven otherwise already.

Exactly, since I trust the people here, skewed voting shouldn't be a problem. So I don't see why us architects shouldn't get a vote. If more people feel the way you do, alright, but other wise it isn't a big deal.

And by obvious, I didn't mean which park would win, I meant it was obvious that the category meant.

Ah,

This is a little phrase coined by the stand-up comedian Demetri Martin.

He said something to the likesm of "When I'm IMing on the computer, I don't use LOL, I use LQTM. It stands for Laugh quietly to myself, which is more honest."

Re: URC Draft! by Ethan Ethan Profile at 8/17/07 10:52:51 AM

Mike,

I think anyone can talk and mention what they want about the parks, but if we go into some things too much, like theming, we could end up voting for someone's park based on something they just thought up. I could say that the tallest structure in the world, a skyscraper/drop ride, is in my park. But this is something to discuss, mainly after the vote to have fun with and go into detail. I don't think it is great for the voting process.

So I say... yes and no. Yes, but only after the voting process, or at least we should intend to vote based on coasters and think about theming as just gravy.

Um, did no one notice that beastmaster (Mike) has named his park "Kings Point Lake?" There have been at least two lists that have neglected to put this info in, and he has mentioned it in three separate posts... He mentioned he was naming it "Kings Point Lake" in his 8/13/07 22:34 post earlier, then again when he picked El Toro as his first pick in the 8/15/07 15:45 post, and the third time was in this morning's at 7:59.
Am I the only one that is reading through every post completely? Sure seems that way, eh?
I don't mean to complain, but if I am going to try to keep up with this thread, it would help if all the available info was listed, right?...

WHAT!!!!!! I totally resent you naming your park after Michael Vick!!!! His name is one name that definitely does not need to be associated with something that means a lot to me (roller coasters, that is...). I know he claims that he is innocent, and that people are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, but the facts are adding up against him, and it isn't looking very well for him at all... The things he is accused of are horrific enough that no one should want his name associated with them at all. The fact that you did this just sickens me!!! Even if you were trying to be sarcastic, I do NOT appreciate it at all!!!

I am on the Board of Directors of a newer Pet Rescue here in Chicago, and I have seen many emaciated, abused, and neglected dogs and cats. There is no excuse for anyone to treat these animals the way they have been treated. When I think about the things that jerk is accused of doing, it just makes my blood boil!!! He is lucky that I am not the one responsible for his punishment when he is finally convicted!!!

I know you probably won't, but I do wish that you would consider changing the name of your park. However, if you must have your park named after him, I can't see myself paying any more attention to this thread, which is too bad, because it was starting to get interesting.

So, sorry Ethan. You had a good idea, it is just too bad that BRossano23 (Bill) had to spoil it. I can NOT and will NOT condone anything with Michael Vick in it or related to it in any way, shape or form...

Snoozypooh, boycotting this thread as long as Michael Vick is glorified in a park's name...

Re: URC Draft! by Ethan Ethan Profile at 8/17/07 4:39:59 PM

SnoozyPooh,

Please, hate the player not the game. You can root against him if you want. I wasn't sure if it was sarcasm or not anyway since apparently he named the park after Vick and said it was an animal park. If not, whatever, I don't appreciate it, but I'm not gonna boycott you or anything, just ask you to change out of respect.

You don't have to but it would be recommended.

BTW, Jenny, don't worry. I'm moderating this thread and I have it handled. If you read, you'll see I mentioned that park names and pick will be posted on an up to date list at the beginning of each round. Mike's, or anyone else for that matter, will have a neglected park name. that goes the same with Bill, nobody has to update the list themselves, I got it handled.

Alright, hoping there won't be an more mishaps, Ry is next.

Susan, I commend you for your work with animals at the Pet Rescue. I'm an owner of a seven year old cat myself. I in no way condone Michael Vick, and people can say "innocent until proven guilty" if they want but IMO he's guilty as homemade sin. When BRossano named his park MVAA, I took it as a joke; It is an oxy-moron. I'm a light-hearted person, and to be honest, I thought that it was pretty funny. Maybe BRossano can change the park name to "Most Overrated Quarterback in Football
Adventure". :)

MY TURN! :D

Ok i've been patient...and boy it hurt seeing Ride of Steel(SFNE) go :( BUT it seems i have the last pick of this first round AND the first pick of the next round...so i guess ill do them both now if that's ok ethan...

Ok so i thought id grab a nice big one for my first coaster instalment in RyLand (it's lame i know, but it'll do for now :p)
* Expedition GeForce (Holiday Park)
So that's got me some air, speed and height...

Now it's been hard...because i have a few i REALLY want, thing is i can only pick one more now...hmm...strategy...

Well, for it's ride, and it's rediculously fantastic theme'n my next pick is Nemesis (Alton Towers).
So that gives me some inversions and sweet looks.

Next i need some wood...but alas i have quite a wait now until i can pick two more :p

Now that round 2 has taken off (no prblem at all Ry), here is the draft list so far. Any innaccuracies can be reported to me and will be fixed in time for the next round list.

So that puts Tim on the pedastal as he makes the third pick of ROUND 2!!!

Nobody's attempted or mentioned this so far, and I know we're making this up as we go along, to a certain extent..but I think we should establish that coaster names may not be changed upon or after drafting...my thought is that it would be very easy to pick a ride and change its name to fit a theme the drafter may have in mind.

I'm thinking too much, I know...

Yeah,

It's pretty much implied. You can change the name after the park is finished, but it won't do you much good to label a coaster by a name that no one will recgonize.

This might have been asked before, but I don't want to go through all of the posts again. Can we draft coasters that no longer are around?

Re: URC Draft! by Eric_Gieszl Eric_Gieszl Profile at 8/18/07 2:25:25 PM

Ethan, this thread is getting kind of long (scroll wise). Can I suggest that you not reposting the entire round list. Maybe just edit the original one as people make their selections or just repost the round we are currently in. This thread may expedite a page-by-page navigation project for threads.

Yes, you can. But based on the problems some coasters ahve gone throught to end up defunct, it isn't always teh best plan.

I have decided to fix that problem. All I have to do it edit the list as a I go along and delete the old list. If you look through the this thread you will now find that the original list is gone and only the latest round list is up. This will help the scroll length problem.

Page-by-page navigation could help as well.

Glad to have a moderator who cares,

Crap,

Well it looks as if you are getting both. In my opinion, the two shouldn't be seperated, and without each other they'd be below average. So my vote (since I wanted to pick it and claim this myself), you can have both.

It wouldn't be DUELING DRAGONS if ya only had one track now, would it, Chad?...It'd be A DRAGON WITH NO ONE TO DUEL WITH!..I'll leave the final determination to our esteemed moderator, but to me..although many of us count each track separately when it comes to credits...it's a package, and as such, your pick is perfectly legit. Looks like Ethan already responded as I was typing, so consider my expressed opinion a "seconding" of Ethan's motion to accept Dueling Dragons as one coaster.

My URC name is "beastmaster."

What I'm wondering (and I'm sure everyone else is wondering too), how is the Beast going to be trimmed at Kings Point Lake?
(I pray for none at all, and if you could add a bunny hill to the "worlds longest brakerun" that'd be nice as well.)

Hey, Ethan!

This is kinda fun!..I wonder whether people are picking coasters only that they've personally rode...Me,I've never been outside North America(my only excursion out of the US was to Canada, when I was 5) so a few of these picks I've only read about..the European ones, and some domestics, that is...so it's a learning experience, besides being fun!

My "draft board" does contain a few North American coasters I have not rode..we'll see if they're still there for me later!

So far, so good, right folks???

Off topic, I get to ride that in December.

Man this one was probably the hardest decision I had to make, but im hoping on my next pick will still be there, or at least 2 of my 3 options haha.

Anyways Im going to have to take it now, since there's only 2 in the U.S. at the moment, I'm gonna have to ahead and grab Griffon from Busch Gardens Europe.

lol I almost want to change it right now, was such a tough choice but this is the one that was the most likely to be gone after this round (at least IMO). So yeah that's the final answer. Oh and for you Mike, I haven't rode/ridden any on my list so far.

Unless he decides not to take it (a bad move obviously), he gets the theming. While in most cases you should choose and vote based on the ride itself (except for coolest park), this ride is nothing without the scenery, so yes, he must get it or he would've wasted a pick.

I just found out Six Flags:NE is actually only like an hour away, if i wasn't broke last saturday, That's where i would've been. Then my sister is moving to Florida in October. So of course that opens up Universal (dueling dragons) and all the other "theme" parks, since I'm from the North, I could hit any state on the East Coast, and go as far out of the way as Dollywood.

Also I could totally; totally hit some parks between florida and Texas.

I hope you picked the coaster with the barrel rolls right before the spike and with lap bars. That is when it was at its best to ride. It stinks they had to change it. Since they changed the ride, it has not been operating much either.

I think the scrolling is long enough on this thread, leave football on the football thread ok? LQTM, although we definately learned something about Brady Quinn during the preseason, If he was in at the beginning of the fourth we could have won. What am I doing? I should take my own advice.

Re: URC Draft! by beastmaster beastmaster Profile at 8/23/07 8:58:21 PM

I decided I wanted an indoor coaster at KPL and was trying to decide between my two favorites...Kennywood's EXTERMINATOR and ROCK AND ROLLERCOASTER Featuring AEROSMITH(that IS the official name, isn't it?)..at the soon to be re-named Disney-MGM Studios.
Either one would fit with the plans I have for KPL. So I went the scientific route...hey, a quarter works fine, since one can't play rock/paper/scissors with oneself.

So, Steven, Joe, Brad, Tom and Joey..welcome to Kings Point Lake! Enjoy it while you can, though, boys from Boston..the ride will be re-named and somewhat re-themed..(more on that immediately following completion of the draft, although the ride itself will stay intact)..before KPL's Grand Opening on April 1, 2666.

Rock and RollerCoaster is my fourth round pick.

Eric, you and the URC vets have seen a lot more on here than I have...I've only been on here a little over a year and a half, so I'm still a rookie!...a thousand-view thread is a milestone the way 500 home runs has become one in baseball..still a notable accomplishment, but a heckuva lot more common than it used to be...what's with all these baseball analogies? Must be the Mets game I've got on as I type, and it's been a crazy one...See, Ethan? No football!

As I look down the topics page, I see only 2 other 1000s.

But since this one is the first 1000-viewed thread I've been a "major" participant in, though, it holds a special place in this deep, dark heart of mine!

Mike,

Yup yup yup. I didn't say anything, but I sure did think about it! We aren't even halfway through the draft and with almost 150 posts, over 1000 views, and a voting competition to take place at the end, we have plenty more coming.

Eric,

This may not be a milestone for a URC thread in general (on the first page of threads I come 5th in views), but it sure it for me! I have been here for a year, at least as an active board member. And I have never come close to this success in a thread. I don't think I've ever broken fifty posts before. I do pretty well with posting regularly and trip reports (unfortunately they can't get written often enough), but nothing like this. Especially since this is a thread that creates interaction and strategy, I'm glad it is going as well as it has. I know there have been higher viewed and posted threads, but since I seldom make threads unless I feel compelled to, I'm excited to see any replies.

-Ethan-

BTW, I'm glad you switched to a new sport, I prefer baseball anyway... GO TRIBE!!!

And Eric, batter up.

I know its tough to get a 1,000 views. Without the multi-page thread setup which counts multiple views from the same user we're at a disadvantage. Chillforce is still the all-time posting champ with 7,330 total posts in this version of the board. The all-time most viewed topic is this one. Can you believe that?

I hit that thread you mentioned above, and found it interesting that, although the original post is only a little over two years old, I recognize very few of the respondents' user names as being URC regulars..I guess many are people who chimed in because of the subject matter?

I'm glad this site doesn't have a setup like that, and that we don't have thumbnails and post numbers, because it makes the place classier. BTW, how many views did that thread get, and what was the top replied thread? Can I know how much I've posted?

Just curious, but what's wrong with Tatsu's pretzel loop? If it's the same as the Supermans' loops, then I'd think that'd add a great deal to that ride.

Quoth my Fifth Round draft pick: "NEVERMORE."

Mr. Poe's bird is taking wing to KPL.

Holiday World's RAVEN is my choice.

I like Eric's posting of his "collection" halfway through the draft...I don't know how many URCers outside our group of ten are keeping tabs on this, but that's a good way for them to see our picks in one spot for each..so, acting on Eric's cue, here's my five coasters:

EL TORO
THE BEAST
EXPEDITION:EVEREST
ROCK AND ROLLER COASTER(will be re-named and re-themed)
RAVEN

Michael Sean Gallagher-President, CEO, Chief Designer/Architect, and Animal Trainer-Kings Point Lake Park, Inc.

> EL TORO

Mike, that's a pretty weak collection. El Toro deserves some props, but the rest... the over braked Beast, a training wheels woodie and pair of over themed Disney coasters. What are you thinking? The line for El Toro is going to be like four hours and everything else will be a walk on. With as much money as you spent on Expedition Everest you may want to stop picking any more coasters or you're going to end up in debt trouble like Six Flags.

The pretzel loop is one of the worst ride elements ever. It's so painful. There is nothing enjoyable about being crushed by forces while riding in an awkward position. Tatsu's pretzel loop just makes an already bad experience on the Superman coasters worse. I'm not a fan. My gf won't ride it again. My roller coaster fanatic cousin took one ride and she refused a second ride.

I like the pretzel on SUF at SFGADV. The rest of the ride is a bore and not worth the wait.

Re: URC Draft! by Overbanked Overbanked Profile at 8/27/07 4:02:06 PM

Trust me I'm not. I think the post before pretty much sums up "flying" coasters. If there is only one element that makes a ride then it's safe to say the ride is probably a dud. In general, I'm not impressed with flying coasters and I'll take a Vekoma flyer over B&M any day.

Re: URC Draft! by duxstar duxstar Profile at 8/27/07 6:19:52 PM

lol, This next pick is very controversial OMG, The reason I'm taking it is for 2 reasons. The first one is, because the only time 2 time's I rode this thing, it was awesome, like beyond awesome. Also it adds to the list of woodies in my park.

So next up
The First year, Pre-loop removal, no trim breaks, and upkept extremely well, I'll take, The Son of Beast

I didn't want simply to pick all my favorite coasters, or whichever ones were still available to me...I'm having fun trying to fit coasters into my themed areas, which I had ideas about even before I started drafting...and as KPL is a fantasy park, I don't really have any idea how much I paid for EE..maybe I'd get a good deal because it's used?..Beast "over-braked?"..not at KPL!.."over-themed?"..yeah, probably, but the basic ride on R and R is more than decent, although I haven't rode EE...Props to you, Eric, for choosing DOMINATOR...a terrific ride.

What were you thinking? Just kidding, I love SOB; I totally agree with you concerning your take on it. I haven't ridden it without the loop yet. If you haven't picked it, I was gonna pick it on my next pick. I must admit, that was a pretty ballsy pick; I guess I kinda wussed out not picking it, because alotta peeps don't like it.

I chose Tatsu based on other people's reviews, how it looks, and its stats. So if you dont like pretzel loops, and I've never been on one, I'm not gonna argue about it.

Cyclops-Mt. Olympus
Roller Coaster-Gt. Yarmouth Pleasure Beach
Rye Airplane- Rye Playland
Behemoth-Canada's Wonderland.

I like the pretzel loop and find it to be very unique. As others have stated, IMO, the pretzel loop is the best part of the ride. I think S:UF is a very fun ride but needs to be longer or have some more elements. I have not been on Tatsu to compare.

My next pick...
????????????
Riddle me this,
Stand tall when riding this one about,
It's long green track creates a unique layout.
With inversions that number six,
This is one of my better value picks.
Taller and faster than any other,
Riddler's Revenge is one bad mother....
?????????????
With my next pick, I select ?Riddler's Revenge? from ?Six Flags Magic Mountain.?

Re: URC Draft! by Fastfly48 Fastfly48 Profile at 8/28/07 11:01:15 AM

Im next then...
I was thinking about Riddler's Revenge too...but i found something better, IMO. So to fill the sit-down steel looper place in my park i choose: Dragon Khan from PortAventura. This baby has 8 inversions: Loop, Dive Loop, Zero−G Roll, Cobra Roll, another loop and then interlocking Corkscrews/flat spins.

Next up, i need some more wood...so far i only have Hades. So to add some twist, great looks, great ride and high capacity i choose: Lightning racer (Both sides, thunder and lightning please :p) from Hersheypark.
So far my line-up looks like this...

* Expedition GeForce (Holiday Park): http://www.rcdb.com/ig977.htm?picture=22 Big steel, Intamin mega coaster, 82 degrees max vertical angle, 4.5 + G-Forces

* Nemesis (Alton Towers): http://www.rcdb.com/ig776.htm?picture=11 Invert, B&M, Fantastic theming (blood river!) and a killer ride.

* Hades (Mt. Olympus): http://www.rcdb.com/ig2667.htm?picture=66 Big wood, Gravity Group, 65 degree first drop, 90 degree turn. The perfect greeting to guests in the car park!

* Batman and Robin: The Chiller (Six Flags Great Adventure): http://www.rcdb.com/ig424.htm?picture=5 Launch, shuttle, backwards, duel/race, Premier Rides, With lap bars AND Cobra rolls, LIM Launch Shuttle...that means backwards action! 0-70mph in 4 seconds

* Dragon Khan (PortAventura): http://www.rcdb.com/ig760.htm?picture=25 Sitdown steel looper, B&M, 8 inversions.

* Lightning Racer (Hersheypark): http://www.rcdb.com/ig597.htm?picture=10 Dual, race twister wooden, Great Coasters International

Im filling my park with unique roller-coasters, and im trying to get a super mix of as many different roller coaster experiences i can. Im just creating a park id be in heaven at. Though it will probably be my down-fall, im not paying much, if any, interest in family and or kiddie rides.
Now i sit back again and wait...and wait...and wait...

Well, I guess I'll show what I have so far too:

Millennium Force- Cedar Point

Blue Streak- Cedar Point

Montu- Busch Gardens Africa

Flight of Fear- Kings Island

Viper- Six Flags Great America

I think I have a pretty solid collection so far.

-Josh

P.S. Hold up, guys (if this is how Ethan wants to do it)! We need to let Tim choose a different coaster!

Re: URC Draft! by BRossano23 BRossano23 Profile at 8/28/07 1:26:02 PM

Damn, my next pick was going to be Lightning Racers. Oh well, should have drafted while I could. I'll stay in the wood department though. My next pick will be the one and only, Coney Island Cyclone. I think this is an interesting pick. I might have selected it to high. But if you want it, you gotta go get it while you can.

Coney Island Cyclone!

Tim you gotta pick another coaster because Ethan said you can't pick any future rides; Not unless Ethan is gonna change that rule.

Yeah, Ethan..we need a ruling on Tim vis-a-vis BEHEMOTH...we're in Round 6, and that's his FIFTH round pick...we don't wanna lap him!

Re: URC Draft! by Ethan Ethan Profile at 8/28/07 9:01:53 PM

Okay,

Settle down everyone. I'm gone for a day and the whole place goes into chaos lqtm. knew someone would pick Behemoth... and the ruling stands with the rules already in place, no future rides. If the ride is not running, how can you compare to other rides when it comes to reliability, theming, and well, THE RIDE! So no, Tim, you can not have Behemoth.

Tim, select a new coaster. Until he does, the coaster picks taken after him do not count. If they are uneffected by Tim's new choice, they stand. Otherwise, tehy must be remade as well.

Also, my ride list so far is:

The Voyage
Nitro
Storm Runner
Alpengeist
Tatsu

That is all.

So far, Discovery Islands is the park I'd be most inclined to visit..which brings me to a question..although it has nothing to do with the draft itself or the rules:

Ethan: Ohio
Me: New Jersey
Tim: Canada, if I recall correctly
Chris: Florida
Eric: California
Josh: Indiana(?)

Those are just the ones I remember from seeing them on the posts and profiles..apologies to Ry,Chad,Bill, and Patrick.

So here's my question...are our respective parks to be built in our home territories? In my case, the answer is no..I mean for KPL to be a year-round park, which certainly ain't gonna work in the northeast!. Negotiations for land are currently underway in various states...

P.S..That strange computer problem I posted about last week just popped up again...but I some how didn't have to re-type this!

I think I'll keep my park here. We need some good steelies.

Re: URC Draft! by duxstar duxstar Profile at 8/29/07 1:49:51 AM

Upstate NY, I would probably move my park about halfway between Rochester, New York City, and Buffalo. That way It might only be seasonal, but and this is huge, I get the population of New York City at a real, legitimate Amusement Park, but not just relying on the city, relying on the whole state of NY really =d.

Re: URC Draft! by Ethan Ethan Profile at 8/29/07 6:49:39 AM

Hey,

I'd like to put mine in Ohio, and that would be a nice future asperation for me. But, for a long time this would be a bad idea. The market is already dominated by two huge parks, and another huge park might put the smaller ones out of business (or at least GL if I put the park where I'd want it). So, my park is moving to... Myrtle Beach. This is another step for this place to become the next Orlando. Hard Rock Park and Buckeye Park were first, but Disney and Universal are sure to follow, and maybe Busch Gardens Asia lqtm.

And as for Tim, I looked at his post and thought... ugh. Then I went through the other posts and saw that people were disregaurding it, making picks in one of the shortest time spans I've seen.

Well, change it Tim.

Well, G'day to ya then, mate!. This draft group truly spans the globe!

Mike, whose accent, I have been told...sometimes by strangers over lo, these many years... sounds Australian..as well as British, Irish, Scottish, German, and Austrian...fact is I've never been out of North America!...that's the main reason I wanna go to Discovery Islands, Tim's park...for its (so far) international flavor..It's like a roller coaster version of EPCOT!

You're right, but I think the short time span is due to the fact that it was an end of a round so myself and Ry don't have much time in between picks.

Re: URC Draft! by BRossano23 BRossano23 Profile at 8/29/07 10:09:45 AM

Micheal Vick’s Animal Adventure Park is going to be located New York (where I'm from). So far I like the lineup I have going for me. Some unique rides and record breakers.

Coaster lineup
-X
-Kingda Ka
-Volcano:Blast Coaster
-Sheikra
-Riddler's Revenge (pending)
-Coney Island Cyclone (pending)

This really a dream park.

I'll second that Bill...
I always do both my picks in the same post because they're together, and because i've had almost 2 whole rounds to think about my pick. To be honest, i forgot about the future rides rule, and somehow missed the post reminding us about it, when i saw bills post i just went. My bad sorry. Im out of whack with the whole time thing because im way over here in Perth, i just post when i see it's my turn, no sinister stuff...kinda shocked some would think it :s
Im just hope'n Tim doesn't want either of our picks :p
Seems like we're all still waiting on Tim to choose a different coaster so we can move on.

ps. Mike, sorry buddy, you're WAY off with your Australian accent attempt :p

Re: URC Draft! by duxstar duxstar Profile at 8/29/07 10:18:11 AM

lol, I think I would want to visit everyones park!!! They are all dream parks unfortunatly, as my park stands now in order to visit I'd have to go to Massachusetts, Florida, Virginia, Minnesota, and Ohio in Order to ride all 5 so far.

Re: URC Draft! by Corkscrew_Foley Corkscrew_Foley Profile at 8/29/07 1:22:37 PM

Alright, I made a slight mistake. ;) I'm re-picking, and don't worry, I'm not going to steal ideas, I'm playing fair here. :)

My pick will be Tornado from Särkänniemi in Finland. It'll come with the boardwalk so I can do the first of two inline twists under it. I should add that it's an Intamin invert.

My new list.

Colosso- Heide Park.
Cyclops- Mt. Olympus
RollerCoaster- Gt. Yarmouth Pleasure Beach
Airplane-Rye Playland
Tornado- Särkänniemi.

Tim.

I apologise for the mishap and the wait time.

That's nothing..look how far Tim would have to go!..he'd not only have to travel internationally, but back in time to ride the Airplane..anyone got a DeLorean he can use?..Doc Brown can go with!

Be patient, Chad...each of our fives will all be in the same spot soon...

Re: URC Draft! by Overbanked Overbanked Profile at 8/29/07 5:26:42 PM

For pick #48 Tim picked Tornado at Sarkanniemi

For pick #49 Bill picked Riddler's Revenge at SFMM

For pick #50 Ry picked Dragon Khan at Port Aventura

For pick #51 Ry picked Lightning Racer at Hersheypark

For pick #52 Bill picked Coney Island (Astroland) Cyclone

Tim you're up next with the 53rd pick.

Well,

I think it is easier to make a park themed to a place with different cultures, instead of a bunch of snow and penguins. Although they could make a Busch Gardens "Down-Under". They could put Oceania and Antarctica together.

Re: URC Draft! by Corkscrew_Foley Corkscrew_Foley Profile at 8/29/07 6:51:24 PM

For my next pic, I am going with Kirnu at Linnamaki. It's an Intamin Ball Coaster. It'll be the first of it's kind, you'll enter what looks like an enormous hill, and under that hills are animatronic worms, and other creatures that live underground, and the large worm that runs the underbelly of the hill will be the coaster itself.

Discovery Islands picks-

Colossos (Heide Park)
Cyclops (Mt. Olympus)
Rollercoaster (Gt. Yarmouth)
Airplane (Rye Playland)
Tornado (Särkänniemi)
Kirnu (Linnamaki)

I'm Tim West, and I apporve of these pics.

I looked at some pix of Kirnu on RCDB..strange looking little fellow, ain't he?...none of the photos gave a good view of the entire ride, though.

Doesn't this picture show the whole ride of Kirnu Mike?...
http://www.rcdb.com/ig3613.htm?picture=1
None of the picture on the data base give an entire view of Tornado though, pitty.

A Busch Gardens "down under"? HELL YES :D Though, we already have 4 small (big for australia, but small for you guys) amusement parks sucking up all the people on the East coast. A BIG one there would probably shut one or more of the pre-existing "smaller" ones down, that'd suck. We just don't have enough people here in WA to do a BIG park many favours.
That's ok though, i like international traveling, oh except for the INSANE flight length/time :s

Re: URC Draft! by duxstar duxstar Profile at 8/29/07 9:52:52 PM

With my next pick, I have to go with a launched Roller Coaster, cause I mean I just can't lack one when all of you have one already; So with this pick I'm going to go ahead and grab Wicked Twister from Cedar Point, I don't think I've grabbed anything from there yet, but this gives me a launched, and a ride that has a very small blueprint as far as taking up space lol. With this pick I'm really hoping the one ride that I wanted to take here is still there when my next pick comes around.

Re: URC Draft! by Eric_Gieszl Eric_Gieszl Profile at 8/29/07 10:12:19 PM

Since you stole my pick (Wicked Twister) why not tip me off on the one you're hoping will be here the next round.

Re: URC Draft! by Ethan Ethan Profile at 8/29/07 10:52:59 PM

Everyone,

A little late, but here is the draft list updated to round six.

Well, it seems Tim is thinking outside the box... or would it be outside the ball in this case (uh oh, I'm sounding like Mike). I wasn't suprised with that ball coaster choice since you were wondering if Hershey would get one.

Mike's up next. And don't be surprised if I am posting less frequently (at least compared to usual) since I'm really busy (first day of school was today).

BTW, it was nice to have a mid-draft park listing, but don't post your choices anymore, because it takes up space and I will be posting your complete lists at voting time.

Thanks,

I guess it's my turn...I was trying to decide between Steel Phantom and Phantom's Revenge...I rode SP three times in its last season..I enjoyed it, but it didn't really leave any lasting impression on me. I haven't rode PR...if all goes right, I will in a little over a month...but I've heard and read some good things about it...so it's got an "AIR" of the unknown to me, and it fits what I'm doing at KPL, so with my 6th round pick, I choose PHANTOM'S REVENGE from Kennywood.

Please remember guys, your overall draft can only have up to five woodies, five non-looping steelies, and five inverting coasters; Some of yall are pretty close to maxxing out on a coaster type; So far, I spreaded around the love pretty good.

TTD (non-looping steelie)
Goliath at SFOG (non-looping steelie)
Incredible Hulk (inverting)
Top Gun: TJC at Carowinds (inverting)
Starliner at Cypress Gardens (woodie)
Cheetah at Wild Adventures (woodie)

obviously I bring it up because, I really dont plan on picking it, and doubt anyone else will now pick it, just thought it was funny =d.

I don't consider it the same ride...my understanding, and anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, because y'all know I ain't big on technical stuff..is that loops were removed..to me, that creates a whole new experience...any one can pick Steel Phantom, because that ride in its original form, no longer exists...and defunct coasters are ONE-A draftable..in fact, I have my eye on one!

Note to Eric:

It took me a long time to read this thread. I was wondering if there was a chance this game could be placed in its own category somewhere on this website? It seems to be attracting more players. I'm a bit interested in participating but have to keep scrolling waaaay up to reread the instructions.

I have an idea for a theme park name and a coaster to start with (not saying its name right now though until I understand how this game works in layman's terms). Hows the name Exclusive Riding Time Theme Park aka ERT Theme Park? LOL. I know it's pretty long and might seem silly. But, whenever I go to a good park it's during a coaster event and the first thing I am thinking is: "How can I ride this (or these) coasters without having to wait in long lines and reride it as many times as I want?" Just an idea. LOL.

Mike,

You are right. Although I doubt many will go for Steel Phantom if anyone for a long while in the draft, Phantom's Revenge is a completely different ride. It was rebuilt to have intense speed and height while Steel Phantom had loops and I heard was rougher. So they are different experiences altogether. You only get the Revenge and anyone can still get the original or any other defunct ride.

I don't know if Eric wants this to be a permanent part of the site, but a temporary move could be nice with enough support. Otherwise, I doubt that this will be anything outside of the forums unless it has great results by the end.

Well, you can not join now (we are into round 6 of ten and there is a ten person limit). But, I hope this goes well enough for future drafts with some new twists and anything else to make it interesting. I will sign you on as out first back-up drafter. Ethan is that true ??? I thought you said just draft whatever, and that's cool, I would imagine everyone has been drafting to have a nice mix of different types of coasters anyways.

For example
I have a Hyper Coaster in Superman
I have an Inverted in Dueling Dragons
I have a "drop" coaster or whatever they call them in Griffon
I have a pretty decent/new Wooden coaster in Renegade
I have the biggest Woodie in the world, along with the only looping.
I have a Launched Coaster that goes forwards and backwards.

I plan to go along these lines and grab "different" roller coasters than what I have. I mean as it stands I have about 3 options for my next pick already in my head, obviously If they get picked I'll have to rethink my position.

Steel-non looping

Steel-looping

Wooden

Re: URC Draft! by beastmaster beastmaster Profile at 8/31/07 8:20:13 AM

Think I'll take inventory..with six rides, I've got three woodies. If memory serves, Aerosmith's ride has at least one inversion...Phantoms Revenge and Expedition Everest have none to the best of my knowledge...looking at my draft board for the last four rounds, I think I'll be OK!

Please advise if I'm off base on any of the latter three mentioned coasters.

That was hysterical!..I can't wait for new episodes of my favorite show!..I believe that line was a tip of the hat to a line from something that pre-dated Family Guy..but I'm drawing a blank on it.

I can't wait either. When do they start again? I hope I can find the time to watch now that I'm in college with three other people who may or may not like that show (I haven't asked). Anyhoo, sorry to get off topic folks.

Boulder Dash?!?!?!?!?! NOOOOOO!!! That was my next (maybe the pick right after that) pick! Dang it, I was plamnning so much for that ride.

Well, I'll take Eejanaika from Fuji-Q Highlands. If you aren't familiar, it is another 4th demension ride, only taller, faster, and longer than X. I'm glad this one has slipped by, but it may have been on purpose, I guess I'll find out at voting time.

Two more picks and I'm up again. So I'm ready when you are!

-Ethan-

PS: If you wanna go, we'll go LQTM.
PPS: I love Family Guy, although I think the newer seasons have focused too much on the cut-aways and strayed from having any plot.
PPPS: ROTFLOL... QTM (classic).

And to start round seven, I'll take...ummm...V2 from SFGAm.

Re: URC Draft! by Ethan Ethan Profile at 8/31/07 11:39:11 PM

My turn again,

So I'll take Tremors from Silverwood, giving me my second woodie. This was a second choice next to Boulder Dash for me, but I am still gal I could get this ride.

Round seven here we go!

Knowing FOX,Probably not til after the World Series, although I don't know for sure...I'll live with that if my Mets are involved, but after the way they "played" against Philly....if they're not in the WS, I'll be going through Family Guy withdrawal!

I wouldn't worry about veering off topic, Josh..this is a long thread to go through, and some levity helps!

They kept me in my cell at the job til 5:45 last night, so I didn't get to SFGAdv as hoped.

The sheer absurdity of the cutaways are what I love most about the show...most of the plots are essentially recycled from every other sitcom to come down the TV Turnpike, from Father Knows Best to Everybody(But Me) Loves Raymond.

Alright, that's enough for the Family Guy stuff..it's just making me miss it even more!

Well,

To make you miss it more, I have more to say. I love the cutaways the best too, I just think they've gone too far sometimes to a point where they lose their charm and just get annoying, I'll still watch, and thier still funny, but they have gone on for five minutes sometimes and it is just filler time that is funny for 30 seconds tops.

Also, I Love Raymond, but you aren't the only one who doesn't. I don't get what people don't like, but my friend hates the show, and has said that line before.

And on hlaf teh episodes of Family Guy, you could say "Simpsons did it!" But let's not get into a discussion on every adult cartoon.

I was watching this one as well with amazement that no one had picked it, but it is too expensive to maintain for my park budget.

This thread has the most interesting in between conversations in it. So does the "Ads" topic.

OK, that was your pick..now if I remember correctly..there was something in the rules about a 48 hour window when it's one's turn..does that mean if Patrick doesn't make a pick by tonight, his park goes to Lisa, if she wants to join? Although, since it is the holiday weekend, maybe a little leeway should be granted to cjeagle.

I do believe he gets a friendly email warning if he doesn't pick by tonight, and then after that, sometime he gets another warning, and then if he hasn't picked in a weeks time, he is removed from the game. I think that's how it is.

Yup,

48 hours til friendly reminder, 4 days til warning, one week til removal and replacement. That's when Lisa can inherit a park. But I doubt pat will be MIA that long.

DOH! Now all 3 coasters i had my eye on for my next pick are gone, though i guess i shouldn't have really expected them to stay around till it my turn again.

Hey ethan, hows about i give you my next draft pick for Eejanaika? Or, is there anything in my line-up you'd want to trade?

Yeah, it can be tough sometimes, but it's only fair because you can pick two ina row and only one other person has a chance to do that.

> Eejanaika? Or, is there anything in my line-up you'd want

First, I'll have to look over your list. Second, we can have trades at the end. Let's not confuse things by trading in the middle of the draft. Let's keep it simple, then switch it up before we start voting. I'll have everyone "lock-in" when they are ready, and then people can vote by e-mailing me through my profile. That way it'll be confidential. But I will allow predicitions (not so much preferences) by the architects included as to who will get what.

Hopefully everyone is reading this, but I'll probabaly right it at the end of the draft anyway.

-Ethan-

PS: Although I'd trade Nitro for G-Force, I will not trade Eejanaika for anything you have in your line-up. Sorry. I think you have a great line-up though. I'd trade a coupe of my rides for your equivelants, but only one person has an equivelant to what you want, and mine is taller, faster, and longer (although less people here if any have ridden it for comparison in the actual rides).

Ah,

Ry had the sam dilemna. He wished to have my Eejanaika coaster. But I've decided that trading is prohibited til the end of the draft.

This will prevent further confusion in the draft. I will give a week period when the draft is over to allow people time to trade and adjust before they lock in their park and we have the polls opened.

So, no, not yet Tim.

Alright, Alright, enough with the cheap jokes at the bald guy's expense!..Ethan, do something about that cough..you don't wanna miss any school this early in the year..or maybe you DO!..Chris only made his pick last night..it's not even 24 hours since! Gimme a break!..LOL!!!..I was on here a lot over the weekend, but since I can no longer do this KINDA KRAP(just hadda sneak that in!) at work, it had to wait until after supper tonight..I was on this morning and saw Chris' pick..but I wanted to think about my next choice during the day, because it's a bit unusual...I wasn't sure if it was the right time for KPL to announce its latest acquisition.

It's a coaster that had a reputation as being one of the most violent rides ever, with a totally insane layout. I've read about it over the years, and pictures I've seen look interesting. The ride lived only 19 years...1927-1942..it was born the same year as Coney's Cyclone AND my Dad!..Modern technology and safety improvements will allow it to run at KPL, but in my fantasy, I'll ride it in it's original form before deciding what changes to make..if any!..I looked on another coaster site just prior to typing this, and by sheer coincidence, found out that today is the anniversary of the closing, in 1989, of the park that was HOME to my 7th round pick(Thanks, George, for THAT info!) Ladies(wait a minute, we don't have any in our little group..but plenty reading out there in URC land! Hopefully next time, right, Lisa?) and Gentlemen, I give you.....

Interseting pick. I hope it does well for you. The reason it seemed people were hurrying you was because Tim thought he just had to wait for Duxstar, so I corrected him, but I was reminded of how you said you had that itchy trigger finger, and found it funny that you didn't post right away. Actually,

I don't want to miss school. Well, in my heart I do, but in my brain I don't. I'm taking a bunch of honors classes and I'm already behind on some reading. So, missing school at this point in the game would not help. But, missing school in a few weeks, fine by me. I'll get that cough checked out.

Duxstar, you are actually up now. Maybe Tim meant that he was waiting for him since he is right before him? Or maybe he just misread the order. Either way, no big deal.

Lol I thought I was going crazy there for a second, and had to check like 3 or 4 times, Anyways for my next pick, I'm going to go ahead and grab the best suspended roller coaster, and take the Big Bad Wolf from Busch Gardens Europe, Seeing how its the only good suspended I know of (in my opinion I should take it now, cause after that I have no clue about the others.

Coasters to date:

Colossos-Heide Park
Cyclops- Mt. Olympus
Rollercoaster- Gt. Yarmouth
Airplane- Rye Playland
Tornado- Sarkanniemi
Kirnu- Linnamaki
Atlantis Adventure- Lotte World.

Re: URC Draft! by Fastfly48 Fastfly48 Profile at 9/6/07 5:05:48 AM

ok so it's my turn...

well, i lost alot of my choices that time...had to change my plans alot. But that's just the game. Ok so...

I choose Shivering Timbers from Michigan's Adventure. That gives me a sweet wooden out and back-er to fill my wood out and back place. No brakes till the end of the ride, how sweet is that!? So now i have Hades gretting guests at the carpark diving under them and now Shivering Timbers running along the side of the carpark...can you get a better gretting from a park, from the carpark? i think not! haha

...and...

The late Xflight (Geauga Lake). I figure this is the closest experience ill get to a 4th dimension coaster (they're all gone now). Since it's identical/the same ride to Firehawk i figure there isn't any real difference? The only reason i didn' choose firehawk instead is because im not too keen at all on the, well, relocated look of it. No green-age. Atleast Xflight had some grass around it.

ok now ill just sit tight again, for my final two picks...fingers crossed.

It's Ethan's call, but my two cents? I don't mind the idea of trading amongst each other after the draft, although I don't expect to do any. But I think trading coasters selected for ones that were not would be antithetical to the draft..after all, if one wanted a certain coaster in one's park, it should have been taken when available..If a pro football team drafts a player, they can't give him back after the draft and say, "Well we figured ___ would be taken, but since he wasn't we'd rather have him!"..the first pick really gets screwed..coasters have feelings, too, ya know..they like to feel wanted...

Hmm..not sure whether you're joking or not mike...
Yes, if someone wants a coaster they should pick it during the draft i agree. But what if the plan changes? I wanted a coaster i have/chose/drafted, but now things have changed (ie: coasters i wanted to go with it/compliment it are no longer available) and now it, sadly, doesn't fit my new/altered park plan. I didn't want to change plan, but that's just the game. make sense?
Though i guess, we'll see when it come to trading time, whether it's traded within the draft or out of the draft.

We all have our own "TRAINS" of thought on our parks. In my mind, I'm fitting coasters into pre-determined (BEFORE my first pick) themed areas. Part of the fun is changing on the fly if a coaster I wanted is taken before I can claim it...But I can appreciate your point of view ...it all goes back to how each of us is thinking..I'll leave it to Ethan..it's all about enjoying this exercise, and if being able to trade for un-drafted rides makes it more fun for others, it's fine by me.

P.S.:

I posted this before I saw Ethan's latest update..so I guess it's a moot point.

Why shouldn't you be able to pick up coasters that were undrafted. They do it in football too. The undrafted coasters are free agents. You can cut or drop a coaster on you list and pick up an undrafted free agent. It is after the draft and nobody has claimed them. That is just my opinion.

My next pick is Magnum XL-200. I'm kinda surprised this coaster lasted so long. Maybe I'm missing something. Anyway, I think this coaster will make my park the tallest park when you combine the coasters I have. I love height and speed!

Re: URC Draft! by Corkscrew_Foley Corkscrew_Foley Profile at 9/6/07 1:14:53 PM

I have given this plenty of thought, and I need another good family coaster, so I'm picking G'Sengtu Sau from Tripsdrill Park. I
t's a Gerstlauer Bobsled that will be placed inside a castle, and the straight pieces of track on the wild mouse section will be in tunnels, and the second helix will be over the moat, complete with water bombs on the outside of the helix.

I'm not sure,

But at this point I'm still gonna say no to the "free agent" coasters. Besides, any mistakes or forgotten coasters are just lessons for next time, if we have a next time of course. And as I've stated before it depends on the success of this thread at the end of voting.

And I am pretty sure you have the most height, between Sheikra, X, Magnum, AND KINGDA KA.

Be still, my beating heart! Someone actually appreciated one of my awful puns!...maybe Australians' sense of humor fits my sensibility better!..and that WAS very considerate and sensitive of you not name the coaster you were referring to..by that I mean the one you would have gotten rid of, I guess.

I'm gonna go ahead and grab a classic, and one of kind at any park in the entire world, I'm going to go ahead and grab Flying Turns. Yes the Wooden Bobsled Coaster, only I'm taking the ORIGINAL Flying Turns, from 1931 (I think?).

I figured now is time to grab some "sleeper" roller coasters haha, plus it adds A bobsled, wooden, AND classic.

There were at least six FT's..based on the year cited above, I'm gonna guess you chose the one from Rocky Point.

OK, my turn..

There are casinos that have "theme parks." KPL will be the first major theme park to have a casino. Not an arcade with slot machines to dispense tokens and /or tickets to redeem for dinky little trinkets..a REAL casino. I may have beaten my own casino "problem" but I'll be glad to make it difficult for others!..LQTM.

For my 8th round pick, I select DESPERADO at Buffalo Bill's Casino in Nevada..since KPL has unlimited capital, I get the building/casino, too..if that's agreeable to everybody.

I don't see why not. Only the coaster and the fact its station is in the building affect the voting. I think your fine with that, Mike.

Glad you mentioned it. There's this kid I sit next to in History... he's a Mchigan fan, ugh. So he still thinks they'll beat OSU, and I tell him "at least we can win our openers. You lost to Appalachian (pronounced it apple-ah-chin to make it sound like a more pathetic loss) state".

Bottom line is, they underestimated a tram just because they are in the Big 10.

And I'm gonna mention something here. Tonight my high school played Cuyahoga Falls. Unless you are from Ohio, you probably never heard of the place. The funny thing is, in the film "Tommy Boy", a women asks for a flight out of either Cleveland or Sandusky to Cuyahoga Falls. The only airport near it is Akron-Canton, CF is way too small for an airport.

But the funny thing about the movie is teh fact that everyone is worried that the factory will close and kill this "little town's economy". This little town is Sandusky, they have other things to keep its economy alive.

I despise the screen and TV persona of the late Chris(I wanna be John Belushi!) Farley and anything he's associated with..he was ONE of the reasons I stopped watching Saturday Night Live...so I've never watched TOMMY BOY straight through..that's interesting, though, to see Sandusky mentioned in a non-CP/roller coaster context...I'd bet one of the film's writers was FROM there, or was a CP fan.

Wow,

I didn't even know about that game til Im googled it just now, they SUCK! Wow, Michigan has lost it. Although I think they suck, they are usually a good team with a great record, but they are blowing it!

I didn't know about the game only because I was camping and I just got back. So, it wasn't the voodoo dolls in Akron, I was a two hours drive away!

But, it looks bleak for the Browns/Steelers game right now, ugh.

You don't remember the Family Guy when he said that? It was when he found out he was technically retarded and said into a mic "Attention customers: (part of the male body)... that is all" He said it because he knew he could get away with it, since he didn't "know any better".

But that isn't really a regular line of Picard. And that shows an even furtehr extent of my nerddome. I watch Star Trek, especially my brother does too. And to answer the White and Nerdy question of which Captain is better, I'd say Picard by a lightyear.

My second to last pick is now. I choose, even though it is a tough choice, Kentucky Rumbler from Beech Bend Park. This gives me 5 inverting, 3 woodies, and 1 regular steelie. I was thinking about Abismo too...but i've already got a fair few loopers. Here's an idea though, why don't you make it do 2 or 3 or more cycles? The ride is REALLY short, and adding in more cycles/circuts would be so wicked. If you youtube it, you'll see that it almost seems like it'll go again. I think it'd add ALOT to the ride.
Just a sugestion...

Is the reason they don't do repeat cycles in real-life on this ride (and the very similar G Force from Drayton Manor) just a mechanics thing? Too hard? Surely it wouldn't hurt capacity much, the ride would only go for 30 more seconds or so...

My ninth round pick is one of the first large coasters I ever rode. It's quaint now, but it left an impression on me when I first rode it in 1978.

With pick # 86 overall, KPL selects the LOCH NESS MONSTER from, as it was known then, BUSCH GARDENS-THE OLD COUNTRY.

Yeah, the Brownies won for my birthday. Awesome game. Eighth highest scoring ever. And the second highest scoring was Browns-Bengals also!

I just hope they can keep it up. Can you believe our last match up with them we were shut down 33-0?

The Loch Ness Monster was not on my draft board but I really like this pick. Loch Ness is such a great ride. Great memories. What a classic. Great Pick!

Thanks, Bill...Nessie was, I believe, the second or third looping coaster I went on, after SOOPERDOOPERLOOPER and possibly LIGHTNING LOOPS..but a much better ride. And, as I discovered on return trips in the mid-90's and last year..still holds up well, and is possibly still my favorite ride in the park..haven't rode Griffon, though.

haha i didn't even realize it was my turn, now Im pretty sure I checked and this ride wasn't on the list of drafted coasters, so I'm going going across the ocean, and going to grab Superman/la Attracion de Acero, out of Parque Warner Madrid Spain. This gives B.R.A.C.E. The tallest Floorless coaster in the world (excludes Griffon, and Sheikra.

Actually Superman Krypton Coaster(SFFT) is a taller (slightly) floorless than the Superman in Spain.

Re: URC Draft! by Overbanked Overbanked Profile at 9/25/07 12:01:50 PM

Far as I know Tim is still in Canada, and for some reason, he's not responding to this thread; He's still actively responding on other URC threads, just not this one. I don't get it. Hell, Eric just came back from Mexico, and did a good job of posting when he had the chance; Same for me on my trip to Lake Winnie and Dollywood. Is Tim still on this planet? Earth to Tim, Earth to Tim.

Alright, alright, I'm here ladies, don't get your knickers in a bunch. :)

My next selection will be Crystal Wings at Happy Valley. It's a standard B&M Superman flyer, but it's so heavily themed it's ridiculous. Plus it goes through tunnels and over water... So there's my next pick.

FINALLY! Well I'm glad this coaster hasn't been picked yet. It has been on my draft board for a little while. Other floorless coasters were taken previously, but this one is my favorite and has some personality, charisma, and style. My 9th round pick is a mythological, underwater beast. It was also featured in a Pirates of the Caribean Movie. My selection will be Kraken from Sea World. It's rare to have coasters over water. This will be nice to have next to my lake, with swan paddle boats around it. It's nice to have the draft going again.

I didn't look this up, but my buddy in Utah has one..I believe the spelling MIGHT be "didgeridoo" but I could be wrong and there could be variations.

heyheyhey!

pouched animals = marsupials
outback steakhouse = um, well, what ever they are we don't call them steakhouses :p
super long horn? that'd be the didgeridoo, mate haha

ok well it seems i have to pick my last two coasters...

I don't *think* it's been picked...
...The mightly Steel Dragon! (Nagashima Spaland). This thing will be one of, if not THE main attraction at my park, it's HUGE! it'll draw people in from everywhere, been seen from everywhere! Also, gotta love the massive slow lift hill! suspense, and a great chance for the peeps to have a good view of my coaster collection! quite surprised no-one has picked this one...
oh and ill take it at it's best btw, oh and operational! no lawn ornament here!

and for my last pick of the draft...

i need some serious spin! don't have any yet...so...
i had some real trouble trying to find the best spinning coaster...REAL trouble...i mean, what one is the best!? i almost started a new thread here to pick all your brains about it :p
ok so i choose dragons fury, from Chessington World of Adventures.

So that's it, im done!

Josh was just answering my question about the didgeridoo. I was just messin' around concerning Outback Steakhouse being an Aussie thing; It's very much an American restaurant (with an Australian theme) that's based outta Tampa, FL www.outbacksteakhouse.com

BTW good picks Ry; I'm surprised that it took so long for someone to pick the largest hyper.

You're up next Bill.

Hey There,

ROUND TEN HAS ARRIVED!!! Final picks people. This is it!

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Voting and vote discussion will take place in a new thread, this one is long enough and will confuse things. So don't be surprised if they voting takes a bit to get off the ground, because I have a few things planned for it.

People didn't choose SD2K based upon operations I'm guessing. So that's at least why it wasn't in my radar.

Well I was thinking about Steel Dragon but it's off the board (good pick BTW), so what can I do to go bigger than that? I want something huge. Something no other park could have. A ride that will tower over all others. A coaster that will put more fear into people than any other ride, even before they get on. You want height, oh I will give you height. My next pick is High Roller on the Stratosphere Tower. The tower will be my icon for the park. You will get a fantastic view from the top of this bad boy. OH BABY! This pick has been on my board from the beginning and I have been taking risks by not drafting it until the last round. High Roller is high indeed. Freakin' 900 feet up! Wanna ride at this elevation? Well you need an elevator to get to this station. Summit, 100th floor please! The stature of this ride cannot be duplicated. Let's roll the dice and hop aboard on the pinnacle of the Stratosphere Tower. High Roller is gonna rise above all other 10th round picks. WOOH!

Re: URC Draft! by beastmaster beastmaster Profile at 10/8/07 1:46:56 PM

> Hey Mike, it's your turn to pick.

Yeah, I know, Chris...I've just been giving it some extra thought in between dozing off in my chair after an exhausting weekend of Kennywood, Knoebels, and driving back and forth to said parks..and fighting LOTS of traffic....I still feel wiped out, plus I'm battling a cold...thank God I'm off today..only found out Thursday that I would be!

My final choice for Kings Point Lake is another from my home state, Wildwood's Great Nor' Easter.

I'm not sure how Ethan's gonna handle the voting, but I do hope before voting starts, we'll each be able to do a post about our respective parks, to talk about other rides, theming, and features that may be unique to each.

You know me well, Mr. Tompkins...too well! BWAH HAH HAH!!!!

My notes are up about the above named parks..calling them "Trip Reports" might make them seem more than they are, since they bunny-hop from subject to subject pretty haphazardly.
I'm glad you want to read them though, because I enjoy doing 'em, even if they're not as detailed and well thought-out as those of some folks on here....it's just what sticks in my head.

Mike,

I will allow time to trade and enhance each park for a week. Then every one will lock in their parks. I will then announce what each park has in a huge "voting post". This post will be the starter of a new thread for voting. The categories for voting will be announced and anyone outside of the draft may vote.

Keep it going, not much more time left!

Re: URC Draft! by Ethan Ethan Profile at 10/11/07 9:21:26 PM

OKAY,

For my final pick, I take a very sentimental ride that I'm glad has been overlooked. For a classic, fun, family ride that will have a short future now, until relocated to my park, will by the The BIG DIPPER from GEAUGA LAKE!!!

So, when the final pick of the draft is made, I will let you all take some time for finalizations. I want everyone to lock in their parks and I'll take care of the rest in a week or so.

BTW, Oreo, you can join in the next draft, if their is one, unless their is some kind of qualification thing, like the playoffs or something. Either way, you'll hopefully be able to join in another time, just not right away.

Please start trading and searching for FREE AGENTS. All ordeals must be approved by myself and everyone involved. By the end you must have a maximum of ten coasters, and I doubt anyone would want less. Don't worry about me approving things, it's just to make sure I know about what's going on and that every new coaster in the realm is allowed by the rules.

Well, unless anybody wants to trade with me, I think I'm pretty set with my picks. This is a preliminary lock (aka, if anybody wants a trade, I'l be more than happy to consider it).

I think Ethan made a Freudian slip above in typing "ordeals" for "deals." Was this draft an "ordeal" at times? Maybe, but nothing's perfect. I think the ten of us did a pretty good job.

I won't be making any trades or drafting any free agents(although I still don't care for the latter, as previously noted.)

Yes, at times, because of confusion from minimal absences in my case, and watching my hopes for some rides disappear quickly. Either way, I meant to say ordeal, I just didn't mean it by it's definition. I think use as more of "event" synonym than "a painful experience" synonym.

No matter what though, I'm glad that it went so well, and I understood that it'd probably lose some steam by the end, but maybe I'll give it a new spark with the voting.

Some things I noticed in the draft

Types of coasters catergories chosen in the draft:
-3 stand-ups
-2 dive coasters
-3 flying costers (2 are B&M)
-5 floorless coasters

These were just some things I noticed for now. I don't really have time to look up more categories at the moment. But it is very interesting to see because certain parks will have some unique style rides. Other catergories I was curious about were shuttle coasters, inverted coasters, suspended coasters, Disney coasters, kiddie coasters, among many others.

So, I'm guessing from th lack of responses, that everybody has locked in their park? Except for the one person who wanted to trade?

To borrow the title of an old Dave Edmunds album..SUBTLE AS A FLYING MALLET.

Flying Mallet..hmmmm. Sounds like a coaster name.

As previously stated, KPL will be making no changes to its coaster collection.

Ethan, would you be willing to trade Alpengeist?

-Bill

Re: URC Draft! by Ethan Ethan Profile at 10/20/07 5:10:17 PM

Sorry,

I'm not gonna trade that one except for Montu or Griffon. I was thinking about Kraken, but I am fine with my lineup as it is for now.

Also, I will get the URC Vote thread up this weekend, so get you parks locked in I guess.

Alright, it's almost 9:30 on Sunday night...I'm sharpening and flicking my Bic, ready to go all Frankenstein villager on you!
With Young Frankenstein(that's pronounced "Fron-ken-steen") opening on Broadway next week, I deem it appropriate.

I'm Michael Gallagher, and I approved this message.

Hey,

Before the year is out I want to thank everyone who participated in this new idea and I'm glad it lasted as long as it did. Though the voting didn't turn out as well as hoped, it was a blast while it lasted.

I know it has been a while... but this thread deserves another post for the 400 mark.

Anyone interested in starting a new one up?

I am! Is it too late for me to get involved in it? I wasn't here for the URC draft last year.

It's dead, Ethan. I enjoyed participating, and I think the others who did enjoyed it as well. But the almost total lack of response from all but the "Terrible Ten" (LOL!!!) Kidding...makes me think that even Dr. Herbert West couldn't bring new life to this.

But there are a few new "faces" on the board, like "mapew" above who might be interested. So if you feel like, go for it.

I'll sit out, but will follow if it develops.

I was mostly joking unless there is a few more following Mapew's thinking.

This was the funnest thing to do, I would love to do it again, I remember I would think about my selection for days ahead of time.

2 down 8 to go. Hey, Ethan, if there aren't ten people could it still work? There are still are a few newbies that could be interested, but I don't think there will be enough to fill up all 10 spots. I could be wrong
