I was very upset when I awoke to this news on Radio 4 this morning Mike.

Airplane!

Naked Gun!

Police Squad.

All brilliant.

Not forgetting the brilliant Red Rock Cider adverts he did over on this side of the Pond. :-)

And his dramatic turns in Forbidden Planet, and in one of my favorite movies of the 70's..the ill-fated captain of the SS Poseidon.

The three you noted are, to borrow your adjective, brilliant. Airplane! is 30 years old now, and both it and the first Naked gun leave me helpless with laughter to this day.

Repossessed, Spy Hard, and Dracula: Dead And Loving It?.....not so much.

The line that keeps sticking in my head from Airplane!:

Rumack: What was served for dinner tonight?
Stewardess: Well, we had a choice: Chicken or Fish.
Rumack: Ah yes, I remember. I had the lasagna.

Dunno if you heard, but Les is the second Airplane! cast member to die of late. Barbara Billingsley (Oh stewardess? I speak jive.) died not long ago. And Peter Graves (Captain Oveur) pre-deceased her by just a few months.

Are you and I the only ones over here now?

Mike
