I'm a crossword puzzle nut, but for now..I can only solve the last one..it's "WATER"

I just this second got the middle one...it's "TEN TO ONE!"

I really want the top one, but nothing yet..lemme think on it!

Are these from the London Times puzzle, by any chance? The New York Post runs that, but I can never fill in one clue. Don't give me the "snake sandwich" solution unless and until I ask for it here, OK?

Re: Poster Coaster Crossword Clues by d_n_s_u at 8/8/08 12:57:45 PM

OK :-)

...I made the sandwich one up myself..Here's hoping it doesn't get lost in translation!

The others come from somewhere..I seriously can't remember where though!

Congratulations on getting the correct answers :-)

>OK, so the clue above must be coaster-related, hence the "OOPS." note. Secondly, you mentioned you made it up and it may get "lost in translation" If I recall, you're in the UK(am I right?), so I'm thinking it's not a commonly used phrase here in the States.

I'll continue to run it through the mill. If I don't have an answer by tomorrow, I'm coming back to you!

Well done that man!! :-)

How about this easy (made up) clue:

Where can I find a noisy candle? (5,6)

You've given me an idea to revive a little puzzler I had in mind for the main board, but never did. Look for it...I'm sure you'll do well.

I don't know about this "noisy candle" one...yet. Coaster related?

Mike

Re: Poster Coaster Crossword Clues by d_n_s_u at 8/9/08 3:47:14 PM

Let's say more park than ride.. :-)

Gary

Re: Poster Coaster Crossword Clues by d_n_s_u at 8/9/08 4:12:24 PM

Maybe I should say that this noisy candle is in this park....????

:-)

OK, I give. What is it? I wanna say Alton Towers, only because the number of letters fits...but I don't know the rides there.

Coney Island (Anagram of noisy candles)

Noisy candles IN this park?? :-)

Very good! I'm usually pretty good at unscrambling anagrams, but not at making them in the first place.

Gary...I think that's your name, right? I wanna get your opinion on my latest wordplay idea before I post on the main board...the idea is that a coaster name is hidden in a sentence, with the letters in the correct order. Example:

It's not a REAL person, Cy. Clones are genetic copies.

I've got 8 others ready to go, but I think it's too easy and simplistic..I'd appreciate the opinion of another wordsmith across the pond.

Hope all's well.

I'm not sure about Gary, but I think it would be a pretty good idea. I'm sure there's ways to do it that would be difficult to find out. Like uhh, I'm not sure I suck at this kinda stuff. But give it a try, it can't hurt.

My example was probably the easiest of the bunch, IMO. I'll hold off until I have a couple more. Thanks for chiming in.

Good to hear from you, Gary! Glad you're enjoying your travel and not going through coaster withdrawal! Have fun, and have a safe trip back!

Hi Mike et al,

I´d run with it Mike - Good Game :-)

Whilst I was sunbathing yesterday (Too much beach, not enough Pleasure for my liking) I had a go at putting some together.

Not just coaster names though..words from the coaster world.

Fitting the coaster words into a sentence is hard enough but then getting the sentence to give out a clue at the same time.. :-)

The clues are way too easy though..I need to refine..

Anyways here goes for now with my first few attempts..

1) I´m progressing all the more now through artistic arousel.

2) There is no doubt that we enthusiasts are richer for this man´s talents.

3) In my honest opinion, this ancient cruise ride should have sold millions down river.

4) Of all the companies out there trust Stengel to rotate to a cable.

J/K..two years of H.S. Latin, and that's one of the few phrases I know!

After seeing yours, I'm embarrassed about mine...they're way too easy..and I didn't even try to give clues. You did a good job...on first try, I can only solve ONE of yours below.

CAROUSEL..although "arousal" is misspelled...but we'll call it artistic license ;-)

I don't know if I can even re-visit the three I couldn't solve.

this man´s talents....He knows who he is... :-)

3) In my honest opinion, this ancient cruise ride should
have sOLD MILLions down river....A clue was River as in River Caves.

As you may remember from the main North American board, El Toro is my favorite ride..so I'm DOUBLY disappointed in myself for not getting that one.

I'm not gonna put these on the main board, but you can try them..they're a cakewalk, IMO.

1.."He shot me in the leg!" Endora screamed.

2..You didn't catch that fly, Ernest did!

3..Any critic who gave that movie a rave never saw a GOOD film!

4..It's not a real person, Cy. Clones are genetic copies

5..Are you going to join the race, Richard?

6..I need to buy cinnamon, Tuesday I'll go to the store.

7..Do you want to come to my birthday party, Bobby?

8..You're getting a little wild, Catherine.

9..Rudolph Valentino starred in The Sheik. Ralph Bellamy was in Trading places with Eddie Murphy.

Try 'em when you get a chance, Gary!

Needless to say, you got 'em all correct!

I only have time to think of one right now, I'm guessing you're not planning to put this on the main board. If not I might later, in the off-season when we run out of topics.

Try this...

Let me introduce you to the staff. Alfred is todays V.I.P., Ernest will be protecting the V.I.P., Sarah will be cleaning up after him, and I will be keeping the repoters away.

VIPER is the one that jumps to me, and it's the only one I can spot. You're right, I'm not taking this to the main board.
