ParkWorld Online have a great interview with Filip de Witte, the general manager of Bellewaerde, who brings up some fascinating points

Bellewaerde invests heavily in maintaining the mature landscaping, as it gives the park its soul and character

They don't rely on having a signature ride, hence the quote "we do not have a kingda ka or whatever" as their boomerang and topple tower are still thrilling to the average guests

The park had its best season when Six Flags were in charge, reaching 800,000 visitors, but they weren’t making any money as the attendance volume came from heavily reduced admission charges and season ticket holders from other parks in the chain

The park are aiming to increase their operating season, particularly developing their winter/Christmas event, by introducing multi purpose/weatherproof attractions, the first is a 4D cinema, as they can change the film easily to suit different seasonal events and offer something different for regular visitors

Interestingly he's strongly against the parent company, Compagnie des Alpes, strategy to re-brand all their parks with "Walibi" name, as Bellewaerde is geographically too close to Walibi Belgium, plus he feels its important for the park to maintain its identity and originality in the regional market place, especially for its loyal customers

If only the park managers with one of the certain bigger European chains had the balls to say "no" instead of "yes" to the parent company's instructions!

Not many parks have a Kingda Ka! A lot do have a "whatever" though. ;)

I don't know why anyone would want a 400ft rocket coaster. Actually, just take the "400ft" out of my last sentence! ;)

Good for them. That's an incredibly important thing. More important than any one ride could be.

Well yes, they are thrilling enough, but not particularly interesting. Still, can't blame them for buying one in the '80s and being happy with it.

Now that's interesting. I've often thought certain UK parks seemed worse when they were supposedly getting more visitors.

I'm reading a lot into that! ;)
