Over the Hill

It seems that Adventure Island will retheme Beelzee Bob's next year. I can't work out the theme, though, of something called "Over the Hill". Hmm... |
All will be revealed in time.
The grass is not always greener on the other side.

I feel I should be able to work it out, but I can't!
Unless...perhaps it's something to do with the story "The Billy Goats' Gruff". Something to do with trolls, perhaps.
The tagline sort of gives it away..
What's that coming over the hill
Is it a monster? Is it a monster?
I thought for a moment the ride was going to be based on Fraser... seing as he's 'over the hill.' ;) Maybe it's going to be a Sally dark ride?
Tim.

Yup, I thought that. And, probably, the monster = troll. I'm sure the phrase "grass is greener on the other side" originates from Billy Goat's Gruff.
Ah yes, but IS it a monster?
> Ah yes, but IS it a monster?
Oh, I see, a sympathetic look at the troll? Will we see him at home doing housework etc? :P

That's not right.... Tim.

Nah, he's just a bachelor. Sounds like Shrek to me.
A dark ride themed around the three billy goats gruff would be absolutely mind numbingly shockingly terrible.
Over The Hill - if done properly - will be incredible.

Not if it had Humpty Dumpty in as well.
It may eb incredible-but it's a terrible name.
Over The Hill in common parlance means middle aged...

I think they should call it "Up the Khyber"!

Good stuff.
I was discussing this with someone elsewhere, and I think they have correctly guessed what it is. Let's just say I suspect it involves a number of "characters", some of them monsters, some of them not.

I like the tone of that image. I'm glad they've kept the stylised look.

Wow! More artistic direction has gone into that image that anything I've seen in years.
Given the image shows numerous skeletons popping up, I'm definitely thinking "interactive"...
Also, the floating, disembodied gravekeeper very much reminds me of Dampé from the N64 Legend of Zelda games (Ocarina of Time and/or Majora's Mask - I forget which). I bet someone's a fan...!
You know, now I've seen a bigger version of that image, it does look as though the skeletons are sitting in cars on a "round ride" like a Jump & Smile.
Don't get me wrong, I know it's a dark ride, but given that image and the name "Over the Hill", if I didn't know better I'd think Adventure Island had bought an old "Flying Coaster" and put it indoors! You know, one of those flat rides that goes over a bump?
Over The Hill is a great name for a website....(er..and describes me perfectly!)
Have some Beelzee Bob's teardown photos.
The Adventure Island Guide presents an interview with Paul and Martin Clapp, the people in charge of the Over The Hill project -
Very interesting interview.
Best dark ride in the UK? Why not? I think they can do it.
Adventure Island is making itself seem like one of the very most important parks in the UK right now. Important projects like Rage + Over the Hill and interviews with the designers, like yours, make all the difference.
I can't wait to see what they do for 2009 and 2010!
Finally got a chance to ride Over The Hill I'm extremely impressed, this is a ghost train for the 21st century
The attention to detail is fantastic, for example you hear different things depending on where you sit in the long trains, you can really feel a lot of pride has gone into crafting this experience
Scenery is seamlessly integrated with animation screens the overall feel is very spooky but not really scary perfect for the family audience, there's a touch of humour thrown in too with the likes of a flatulent powered witch making an appearance, it's all rather innocent and completely misleading in respect of the final trick, which I shan't spoil, needless to say it made me jump out of my skin, higher than aeronaut will ever be!
Were not often blessed with a new dark ride in the UK, Over The Hill once again proves the smaller independent parks can put so much more care and thought into creating something really special
Sounds FANTASTIC!!!...I must go there.
I love Ghost train rides.
Well done to the A I management.
Thanks for the review, Winged Beast.

Just one question: is that post-ride, or on-ride?

I couldn't agree more. Rage and Over the Hill are two theme park rides as major as any other in the UK these days. I can't wait to see what's next (hopefully a non-looping thrill coaster!)
I'm glad to see things are slowly-but-surely looking up in the UK in regards to rides. Pharting phantoms? I love it! :P
Does anyone know what happened to the Aeronaut plan?
Thanks

I doubt it's naut going to happen. ;)
Latest on Aeronaut is it'll open Feb 2010, but to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't.

To be honest, and I know I'm going to sound like Graeme here, they should have spent their money on something else, like a Gerstlauer Bobsled.
