Ultimate Ride: Disney Coaster- my thoughts

Since my RCT2 STILL won't uninstall off my PC and won't run, I went out and bought another coaster program with hopes that I could build coasters on my new PC. The program I purchased was "Ultimate Ride Disney Coaster", which I have to say is the most entertaining "game" I've played in a long time.

If you haven't played this one yet, let me come right out and say that if you want total realism, don't even think about looking at this game. Also, you can not build an exact copy of Dragster, so that should pretty much eliminate many potential sales as well. But if you are looking for a game that features an extremely simple interface, is fun to play, and features enough options to build many real-life coasters, then by all means, check this one out.

The game allows construction of wooden coasters (a loop is available as an option), steel coasters, "hanging" coasters (which are 4-across seating inverts), "standing" coasters (also 4-across seating), and "flying" coasters (which are 4 across also). There are also 6 settings in which to build your coaster, each with its own unique land restraints. The "Field" is just a flat plot of land with a relatively small footprint to work with. Frontierland features a much larger area of land and includes a few nice ravine sections and a lake. The Space Grid looks very "Tron"-like with a blue background and cool effects. There are also Fantasyland, Toontown, and a plain grid settings as well.

Building a coaster is simple. Just select a piece and do with it as you please. You can twist it, lengthen/shorten it, bank turns and even loops, and add inversions. This edition DOES feature half corkscrews and half loops, so cobra rolls and dive loops are possible. LIM accelerators and brakes are also options. While the station theming is limited to a few choices, the track is only one type (no Intamin box track here), the trains can not be truly customized (although you can use the Big Thunder Mountain trains on woodies and DLP's Space Mountain trains on standard steelies), the tracks can be colored to your liking and there are hundreds of "props" that can be placed on the ground around the ride such as trees, volcanoes, geysers, fireworks, and Disney landmarks like Spaceship Earth and the Astro Orbitor. Once your coaster is complete, you can test it out in a very cool first-person perspective. What's cool about this is that if you move the mouse, you can look around in all directions. So on my version of CP's Raptor, when I'm climbing the lift, I can see the entire ride layout by looking to my left. There are three other camera options too: "Tether', which looks like the camera is attached to the edge of the second car on your train, "Cinematic, which is VERY cool as it shows the ride from various angles, and "free", which is an overhead aerial view of the track. You can also customize the number of trains being used, set the dispatch time, and add or subtract cars from the train. It's kind of cool to be riding in one train and then seeing the next train going up the lift hill after you have just cleared the block brake. You can also set the time of day (day, dusk, or night) and select "judges" to evaluate your ride. Mickey and Donald seem pretty easy to please, though!

So far, I have built a fairly accurate Raptor, a VERY accurate Mantis (brake down the first drop included!), and a Vekoma Flying Dutchman with only one in-line twist. I am having an absolute blast with the game and highly recommend it if you just want to have some fun building coasters. It helps if you're a Disney fan as well. Since I haven't seen any reviews of this product, I thought I'd post my thoughts on it here.

You have not played a coaster game unitl you have played "No Limits Roller Coaster Similation"

On this game you CAN build an exact copy of Dragster and any other coaster. You can get free from my webpage or go here:

http://joshg678.tripod.com/nlfull.html

This is the best game ever and it will take you a while to learn how to make a coaster but when you can get it down you can make coasters like me. You can see my coasters at:

http://joshg678.smashing-selfworth.net/nl/rides.html

You can get to my No Limits webpage at:

And the link at the bottom will give you the link to my whole webpage
