Re: 3-13-10 Travel Channel Shows

These shows were playing all day yesterday.

I caught a couple of them but most of them are reruns I've seen many times.

People frequently ask for the listings, so figured I'd post them.

This is also the time of year where they start showing all these amusement park episodes since the seasonal parks are getting ready to open.

I just wonder if there are any new shows this year....

Re: 3-13-10 Travel Channel Shows

The Science Channel recently had an interesting episode of "Big Bigger Biggest" highlighting the Singapore Flyer( a giant 541 ft. observation ferris wheel built in 08'). It's unreal how complex those style (Like the London Eye) wheels are. This episode also talked about ferris wheel construction in the past. The Singapore Flyer is currently the largest wheel, but not for long with other cities planning for larger wheels. I'm not sure when this episode is gonna be reran.

Ahh, rats. I wish I had known that. I keep meaning to tape that Disney Cruise line show and I haven't managed to do it yet. I'm fairly sure that's the one that my son and I make a brief appearance near the halfway mark. Oh well, maybe next time.

Gee... I just happened to see that this afternoon. I hadn't intended to watch it, but the TV just happened to be on. It was a prety good program overall - very informative, and made me want to take one of their cruises!

Yep, you got their names right. Doing very well, and completely bogged down with school work. They are very much looking forward to summer already, and a month in CA with their aunt camping, hitting the beach in San Diego and Santa Cruz, and hitting at least a couple of parks out there.

Re: 3-13-10 Travel Channel Shows

On Friday, the Science Channel had a show called 'Machines!' a half hour show and one of the segments seemed to be about the Ride of Steel coaster [didn't catch which one it was], but it kinda looked like the Darien Lake one.

And it is appreciated :)

I'm hoping Travel channel has an updated Sea World show about Manta. I'd like to see them do a short segment about it.

Okay I checked, and the next episode is gonna come on Sunday 6/27/10 at 10:30 PM EST with Bert goin' to Vegas. I'm sorry about the Saturday (CP) misinfomation posted above; It seems like channel website time listings are always wrong.

Missed it. I realized about midnight Wednesday night that I had missed the CP episode at 10:30PM. Oh well.

Re: 3-13-10 Travel Channel Shows

Technically you missed nothing much. It was the big 4: Magnum, Wicked twister, MF and TTD [with a rollback - maybe staged for the show?] And this was covered in the 2nd half of the show.
Nice to see some face time for the rides, but otherwise it was more about the host.

I do wonder that if one were to do the big 4 challenge in an hour, would they allow anyone to skip the lines and ride the front? Otherwise a person should start with MF or TDD first and work backwards.

Sorry this is short notice, but Travel channel in 20 min [10pm eastern] will air Bert the Conqueror at Florida and it lists Busch Gardens as a segment.
So just a heads up if you see this message.

Will be rebroadcast at 2AM (got the DVR set). Also the CP episode re-airs Saturday at 9:30PM, according to the schedule.

Cool, I hope you are able to catch the CP one. It was a pretty good episode even though only half of it was devoted to the "big 4".

Re: 3-13-10 Travel Channel Shows

I just watched the CP episode. This is the first time I've ever seen the show but I found him incredibly unbelievable and a bit annoying. Who acts like that and then puts their hands up in the air? If he was truly that terrified he'd be holding on for dear life. I realize it's probably all an act for the show, but come on, at least make an effort to make it believable. I was also surprised Maverick wasn't on it - oh wait, it was probably down again :P (yep - still bitter)

And can anyone do that foursome thing? Never heard of it.

Oh yeah, the host is annoying and probably overacting. I mean sure KK was the most intense coaster I rode so far [in terms of the launch], but I didn't freak out like that. I'd be thrilled if I had a rollback. Sucks it was wasted on him...

And like I asked, if one were to envoke that challenge, are they too allowed to skip the long lines to make the 1hr limit? That sounds impossible unless it was a really light day. Not having been there ever, I would have to imagine the lines for MF and TDD are like over 2hrs each.

=
Also anyone reading this post now, a reminder that the Tennessee and Florida episodes will air at 2am Eastern or 1 hr from now.

Like Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice

(okay maybe only a few of you will know what that refers to)

There's no way that's possible without skipping the lines. CP's coasters are pretty spread out. I thought the way he hit the coasters to conserve time was stupid too. If you start on Magnum, why would you go across the park to Millie only to end up near where you started with TTD? It should have been Magnum - TTD - Wicked Twister - MF last (or you could swap MF and WT at the end too but I think the first way is a little bit shorter) IMO.

The wait times have varied a lot when I've gone but MF had a pretty short wait when I hit it last time there - around 20 - 30 minutes. No wait on Magnum or WT and TTD also varies depending on the time of day. I'd say it averages about 1 hour, give or take. It would be impossible to do those in an hour without an escort to get right on the ride.

Re: 3-13-10 Travel Channel Shows

Thanks for confirming Jen, that pretty much sums it up: it's impossible to do normally without being allowed to cut lines. And not familiar with the layout of the park, but I do agree that any reasonable person would tackle the rides closer together than by 'intensity'.
