Sad state of this forum
It appears it's time to close this forum. Have you all given up on roller coasters and this site? Other sites are slow too, but this is pathetic. I hope you all haven't left for the childish, immature forum run by those freaks at TPR? Please say it isn't true by saying so in a reply. |

Re: Sad state of this forum
I use to post exclusively on URC because there were many knowledgable posters who had been here for years. I use to really enjoy posting here but I've moved onto other sites. Not saying there aren't knowledgable posters here, I just miss the days of Jersey Joe, Shaggy, chillforce, SFOG Viper, PATripman, sparky, Steelforce etc. It's been this way for a couple of years now. I appreciate all the hard work that Eric G. has put into this site over all these years and it's not a knock on him. Some people just moved on and Eric has no control over that. I'm not faulting Eric at all... I just miss the good ol days or URC. Joe

I use to come here several times a day for the same reason mentioned above, but now I only do it every so often out of nostalgia. My personal issue was the fact that there was never much Carowinds discussion here, but I still hung close over the years because of the people, but those old heads slowly started fading away. I guess some enthusiast do grow up and move on and perhaps this site is a victim of that. I recall Kevin Reid popping in and saying as much: moved, kids grew up, life changed. Maybe the answer would be for the site to go after younger kids and let them do like we did and grow right along with the site. I really don't know how you can attract the young crowd but I notice that many of the other sites have lots of high schoolers and such. I would really hate to see this site go away because it has been here for so long. Hopefully there is a way to bring the excitement back and attract a youthful vibe that it once had. |

Re: Sad state of this forum
To be honest, I get so sick of the URC lowered standards type arguments. There are PLENTY of knowledgable URC members that are still aboard this forum. I'll bet that these same arguments persisted during the "glory days". The ones who threaten to leave if it doesn't get any "better", then leave! Damn, it's not like a bunch of nine year olds dominate this forum or something. |

This is one statement that I do agree with for the lack of posts etc. At the very beginning there was so many of us that had families that got together many times during the year. Then we had the URC events and the many PPP's it wasnt unusual for everyone to get into the posting action. I know when Dominic started high school sports it put a damper on our park visits I know this is the samething with Jersey Joe and Kevin Reid and others. I can recall many PPP's there was many kids at the campground gatherings now these kids are either in their late teens or in college. Heck even Sparky, Ben etc was very young when they started to attend the events now some of them are married and planning families.

Re: Sad state of this forum
I am still here and this is my second post of the day.(most in three years LOL!) True! life changes in more ways than anyone would of figured. I still check URC quite often. But living away from the coaster scene it hard to get excited about new addition at parks. Don't ever give up on this site. In the word of my keyfab Brett Hartt, "The Best there is and the Best that there will ever be". This should get a post out of my old buddy Coaster "Jeff" 3:16. Regards,

Maybe, but it got a post outta me! You forgot the middle part of Bret's credo.."The Best There Was." URC is, was, and remains the best. I'm glad to be a part of it. Mike, who worked at Toys R Us with a Kevin Reid...same spelling..years ago in Jersey City. |

Re: Sad state of this forum
I started following this site in 1998 (!) does THAT ever put things in perspective. I hardly ever post but always have found this site to be the most knowledgeable repository of coaster freakdom. I have never met any of you but feel like this is a family. This was the first site I visited regularly after getting a reliable internet connection, and the first thing I checked whenever I got a chance during the first 3 years of this decade when I had no computer. Two years ago after another "tech hiatus" I stumbled upon Shaggy's meditation on coaster enthusiasm through the eyes of the raven disaster...one of the most moving things I've ever read. This was the site that got me out of Virginia and on the road to KI (in 1999) and CP (in 2004) and many other parks I might not have heard of, or gone to. I still check back here at least once a week.... I get the idea many others "lurk about" as well. This site's not dead, it just grew up and got a real job. -ted. |

I think most of us originals are still around... but our daily focus has just changed. I know I hold my memories of the amazing friends I've made through URC very close to my heart. We prooved the fact that coastering is much more than stats and counts... it's the bonds we form with fellow riders. Shaggy |

Apologizing for being redundant, but I too cherish all my friendships here. HWN, BGE, KI, meeting Sir Willow, Coastercellodude, Coaster Joe for the SFAW farewell...so many events and so many good times. My priorities have changed, like yalls. In grad school now, with a few less pennies to dedicate to travel. But to all my friends out here, and you know who you are, I will be back before to long. Pat-O |

I guess that I have decided that I don't want to keep talking all the time. Except for those here in Florida, who really has much to talk about during the off season? Right now I'm just trying to make my plans. For now, it will be Ohio in June and Missouri/Arkansas in August. Sometime soon I'll try to get back to having a USF annual pass. I still haven't ridden HRRR yet. |

Re: Sad state of this forum
You folks may want to try to do an Intimidator tour next year for old times sake. I read somewhere that folks are organizing them to come to Carowinds and Dominion. Being that Intimidator is one of the few attractions opening in 2010 and Carowinds now has it's second world class, custom made coaster. Pound per pound Top Gun/Afterburner is still one of the best inverts out there; now we will likely have one of the best B&M hypers in the country, judging from the layout. That second twisting hill looks very promising. I can't even begin to say enough about Intimidator at Kings Dominion. I may have to think twice before riding it. Come on now, now y'all have an excuse to visit Carowinds for the first time. In the past, if you visited Dominion, there was basically few reasons to go to Carowinds since they have always had a bigger and better version of what we had. |

Re: Sad state of this forum
Like others have stated, I hold URC as a special place. I met a lot of great friends here and have so many fond memories. I still read it regularly and it will always be my first stop when checking out the roller coaster world. Like Kevin said, "best there is..." Yep, it got my attention! :) But I also think Overbanked's words need to be repeated: > To be honest, I get so sick of the URC lowered standards
This is very true and while I don't think anyone remembering the old days is intentionally trying to say that today's URC is bad it is important to repeat that today's URC has some great people behind it. I really enjoy the discussion and (feel like I say this too much) I wish I had more time so that I could participate regularly. - Jeff

Hey, Rock-steel...this isn't on-topic, but it IS URC related, so I'll say it. I wish you had posted in the thread to which I've linked below. http://www.ultimaterollercoaster.com/forums/cgi/forum1.cgi?read=204936 I'd be curious...a combination of WWE rasslin' and steel coasters? Mike |
