TR: Zombieland 10/12
I decided today to go to the movies. I rarely go anymore, partly due to the fact I don't hear them well, although sometimes the Assistive Listening Device helps me. Also, not too many come out anymore that I want to see. So I took a ride out to Mountainside and paid 11 bucks to see a pair of movies I've seen dozens of times..Toy Story and Toy Story 2. I had a smile on my face all the way through, and tears rolling down my cheeks at times (TS2 is one of my "guaranteed to make me cry" movies.) The 3D didn't really add much, but it was good to see the gang again. When I exited the auditorium, the gates to Zombieland were unattended. The next show was to start in about 15 minutes, so I "snuck" in. The park wasn't very crowded..with humans, anyway. Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin were there, along with Jesse Eisenberg, in his second amusement park tour of duty this year, following Adventureland. It's a pretty good comedy-zombie spoof, although Shaun Of The Dead beats it. I'm gonna just focus on the amusement park aspect. The last 20 minutes or so take place at fictional Pacific Playland, a park in California the two ladies wanted to get to. The park scenes were filmed at Wild Adventures in Valdosta, GA, a very nice little park I was fortunate enough to visit last year for the first time. The two girls turn on the electricity and have the whole park to themselves, riding Pharaoh's Fury. However, all the lights and movement attract the living dead, and the park is soon over-run with them. The ladies take refuge on the Double Shot drop tower, here re-named Blast Off. They go up to the top, but the zombies congregate at the bottom waiting. Some climb the tower. Many take falls from the tower after being shot, kicked, etc. Woody and Jesse show up and get the women down (they had shot out the control panel to keep themselves up at the top.) Woody's got two roller coaster sequences. In a quick shot, he's hanging onto the OUTSIDE of the train on what appears to be Hangman or Swamp Thing..I couldn't tell. In a longer sequence, Woody rides Bug Out, the Wild Mouse, blasting the undead at every hairpin turn.
Don't go into the movie expecting high art, but it's worth a look, especially as a rental in a few months. A strong stomach may be necessary for some, because there's some over-the-top gore. Likely heading to GAdv this Saturday...Elvira's waiting for me. Mike |

Great tr. Glad you had fun watching those movies. I think I'll probably wait for the dvd of Zombieland so I can watch it over and over again. On a related note of dvd's, I'm surprised how 'fast' Transformers 2 is out on DVD, it was just early this summer it was in the theaters.. So I'm sure this one will likely be a DVD pretty soon once enough weeks pass. |
