SFKK Removing Chang

...to expand the waterpark.

http://www.wlky.com/news/21043204/detail.html

While I thought the park was merely OK, they didn't exactly boast of the best coaster collection. Very ordinary. Chang and Thunder Run were more than decent. Now the former is heading out to pasture. I think SFGAdv could use a stand-up..they haven't had one since Shock Wave, which I never rode. Can you say "re-location?" I thought you could. I'm not a big fan of standies, but Chang "topped" my list.

Screamscape has been reporting that its going to SFGAm which is weird since they already have Iron Wolf.

Now I also did hear that if it does go to SFGAm it could be turned into a floorless coaster. I could kinda see that happening since the centerlines for the floorless and standups are about the same. Iron Wolf could also benefit from using Chang's standup trains.

Re: SFKK Removing Chang

Wow....that was the only thing that park had going for it....well maybe twisted sisters if you count dueling coasters that don't actually duel.

i typically hate stand-ups. not dislike, but hate. this one totally surprised me though. excellent pacing and layout...maybe it was just relative to my experience at the rest of the park, but i hope it stays stand up wherever it goes...

not trolling here, but a park as nasty as that can't be too careful. when i went a few years ago i found a "park" that looked like a nasty weed infested parking lot covered in gum with poorly maintained clones "run" by indifferent employees in the middle of an airport runway. (ok i said i'm not trolling, but then i did, but honestly sfkk makes sfa look like bge...)

They haven't been running in at least two years, Mike.

The trains are already off site, I doubt they will ever re-open. I thought Chang was OK at best. Hurt the hell out of my legs. It was really painful.

Best coaster in the park??? Greezed Lightnin!

As stated above, I rode in '07 in June. They must have shut down not long afterwards.

Actually, for me...I found it to be the most pain-free standie I've been on. Haven't been on many, though.

> Best coaster in the park??? Greezed Lightnin!

I'll respectfully disagree. Thunder Run was one of the few woods where I actually preferred the front seat.

Re: SFKK Removing Chang

It might have been the last season for that one, I believe. I am getting a little old in the brain and that could be the cause for my date mix up.

See with Mantis, I never got those leg cramps, Chang made them really prominent and I was begging to get off the ride. It was not a nice feeling in my lower legs.

Thunder Run was meh at best, it was bouncing all over the place. I honestly think it needs a good re-tracking and a lot of TLC to get it running smooth again.

I still heart a good launched Schwarzkopf! :-D

That's a shame about Chang being removed, but heck yeah, I wouldn't mind if they moved that over to SFGAdv :)
Shockwave at KD was ok, but too short. I'd like to ride a longer stand up coaster.

That's because when you hear it launch, your mind slips back a few years to Laser Loop. Deja vu!! If only they had Henny Henninger's voice doing the countdown.

Re: Kennywood girls

Not the Kentucky Kingdom offered all that much in quality coasters all told, but when Lola and Stella were shut down, I knew I would never go back there. I know I'm in the minority here, but I'm one that liked the Twins a lot.

Chang = standup = "meh" to me.
That said, I like SFoG's Georgia Scorcher the most.

I enjoyed the Twins too. Even enjoyed the whole park. I'm in the minority, I know, but I had fun when I went.

Loved Chang! It's such a shame they are losing it since It was my favorite ride in the park. But, if the rumors of floorless conversion, and moving to SFGAm are true, then I'm very happy! I just hope that SFKK doesn't suffer from its loss.

Greezed Lightnin' is a great ride. It was my first looping/"big" coaster in the form of Viper at SFOG. Hated it then, but LOVE it now. Great feeling going backwards through that loop!

-Josh, who really wouldn't mind if it was moved to SFGAm and kept as a stand-up. Even though Iron Wolf is already there.

I suspect SFKK may become the Geauga Lake of Six Flags.

As mentioned above, I haven't been on a heckuva lotta standies. But I forgot about Scorcher. That was a nice one.

I thought the same thing why SF Great America would get Chang when they already have Iron Wolf. But then again it is the same park that had two Arrow Loopers (Demon and Shockwave). It would be a good idea if they converted the ride to a floorless but, correct me if I am wrong, would the forces be much different if the ride was changed from a standing position to a sitting position?

I also thought why not send it to maybe SF St. Louis or SF Over Texas?

Agreed.

For all the people that knock SFA and it's problems, I often wonder if they've ever been to SFKK.

In all fairness to SFKK, they don't own the lot that is used for SFKK's parking. When I was there last year they would not honor my SF Parking Pass because the city or the state own the lot and the convention center building right next to the park.

I hope Chang comes to SFA.

I really don't like any stand ups but SFA is really lacking a B&M caliber coaster and think Chang would make a great addition to Gotham City.

We haven't had a new dry ride added to the rides side since Batwing in 2001. PBR was added in 2002 but I don't count that as a dry ride since you do get wet on it in the summer when the waterfalls are turned on.

Not if they made it floorless. The centerlines for the standup and floorless trains are not far off from each other. There would be a noticeable difference if it was being converted to a regular sitdown like Kumba but the floorless trains have the seats elevated higher off the chassis.

If this is the case then I see them doing another Bizarro-themed ride with an on-board audio system.

God love the park, it really doesn't offer much in the way of thrills, chills, and spills, but this was one coaster that I really liked----smooth as silk standie that was a pleasure to ride. Gonna miss that one. My first fave stand up was King Kobra @ Kings Island...and Chang delivered enough for me to take the #2 spot. (Mantis needs to go the way of Vortex/KI as both those coasters cause much much pain to me).

GL is a fun one, albeit a one-trick pony at best.

I was shocked at the performance of TR! The coaster amazed me---I don't know if that was because I wasn't expecting much or what, but this is one fantastic lil woodie.

Hey guys. Remember me? It's been a while!!

I am horrified to see Chang go. I LOVE this coaster, and I admit, I typically like stand ups.

This is horrible for SFKK. First they lose Jay Thomas, now their best coaster...

Me too!!! This time, let's be careful when we transport it. All we need at SFA is another coaster that cannot be resurected.

Not being intimately familiar with SFAm..although I've been there twice this year..I'm wondering if the above is a reference to Ultra Twister. I miss that ride. It was one of the first coasters to really make me realize how much fun these rides could be back in 1986. It was only at SFGAdv for three years, but it left an impression on a 22 year old just beginning to evolve into the Beastmaster you all know....

Why did it never operate at SFAm?

Re: SFKK Removing Chang

Time for a new thread: the top 5 (10?) coasters that contributed to the evolution of the Beastmaster (or other screen name) we all know, along with reasons. Could be positive or negative ... like I KNOW Dark Knight has had an effect on Beastie.
