Superman (noe Bizarro) at SFNE .. What makes it so good?
Being that I may never make it to SFNE for this ride I am wondering what makes this so much better than other hyper/megas out there. I read all the time about how great this coaster is and was just wondering. Is there anything else out there like it? TIA Greg

Re: Superman (noe Bizarro) at SFNE .. What makes it so good?
What has made S:ROS historically "so good" is its great first drop, excellent speed, massive airtime and a "spaghetti bowl" section with extreme laterals and quick changes of direction. It's difficult to say what is the best, to each his own.
But, if I had to choose only one non-looping steel mega-coaster, it would be S:ROS. As I've known it over the years, that is. I've not been to SFNE this year (first time not going at least on opening weekend in years). That's simply due to S:RO...er Bizarro...not being ready yet. It takes its first passengers today. The ride experience of Bizarro is still to be discussed among coaster enthusiasts. I for one already know I will not care for the music, I just don't need it ('cause I'm old, ya know!). One thing I expect is an improvement with the restraints since AFAIK the trains were rebuilt/redesigned more than just high backs with speakers. Perhaps no more ankle "pads!" Mike B. |

Re: Superman (noe Bizarro) at SFNE .. What makes it so good?
We were there today for the Bizarro Media Day. Here is some info I posted about it on another site. First ride was about 9 AM. The train was still cold and only about half full. It seemed sluggish and a tad slower than normal. That would be a recurring trend until later in the afternoon when the trains seemed to warm up and more seats were filled and it got faster but never reached the old speed. That was disapointing. The restaints are now more welcoming to larger people than those on SROS. The seatbelts are longer and the lapbar comes down onto your thighs rather than torso/waist area. The ankle restaints are gone. The lap bar does cause some uncomfortable riding with airtime. Casey also felt like she was being thrown forward some on the bunny hills because of the way the lapbar worked. The new visual effects were fine and I can imagine they may be very good at night. The flame towers were on for the first couple of hours and then not the rest of our stay. We found out that they will not operate in winds over 15 MPH. 15 MPH!!! That is like every day in Massachusetts, the most windy state in the union! Now the audio. SPOILERS AHEAD for those that do not want to know. It isnt really a song but rather a story. Lois Lane ends up in a wormhole and the rescuers encounter Bizarro while they attempt to rescue her. I can see how this may delight occasional riders but it was very loud and became somewhat annoying as we rode quite a bit. As you hit the breakrun the Bizarro song plays and it was so loud we leaned forward to get our ears away from the speakers. Also, we discovered that if you are in the first row of a car, your view is blocked by the speakers in front of you. The second row has raised stadium style seating and the view is OK.

OK, I have never been on SROS, but for all of the SROS lovers out there, I would be pissed by these changes. I think of my favorite steelies, and if these changers were made, I would hate them. BUT - I havent' been on it yet, so my opinion is pretty stupid. - Pat-O |

Thanks for the report, Ed. I don't like hearing about a reduction in speed; who would?
I am not surprised about the front rows of each car having obstructed views now; I'd seen those photos of the high back add-ons and figured it would be that way. That's a failure IMO. It is nice to know of the improved restraints. Mike B. |

Re: Superman (noe Bizarro) at SFNE .. What makes it so good?
Mike: It was getting faster as the day progressed. I am holding hope that the slowness was a product of breaking in new trains and trains that were half empty most of the day. The airtime was still pretty good especially in the back few rows. I had always prefered the front seat on this ride but Thursday we went mostly for the back. I still have my fingers crossed that the old speed will be there by the time we get back there again sometime in June. |

Earlier in the morning when Bizzaro opened it was slower, but it did start to pick up speed as the day progressed. I think that the trains need some break in time, they are brand new. The airtime has moved towards the middle and back of the train. >> I am not surprised about the front rows of each car having
It wasn't too bad , I noticed it more on the climb up the lift hill versus the rest of the coaster. >> It is nice to know of the improved restraints.<< The new restraints are a heck of a lot more comfortable then the retrofited restraints. I think that the onboard sound has be adjusted in my opinion. There are points that it is loud, but then it are other parts that it is fine. My opinion,I would like to hear more of the Bizzaro #1 song during the ride. Bruce.......
