Valleyfair probably the worst of ALL the amusement parks
You know, I'm a Minnesota native, and have lived here my whole life. I am 17 years old, and been going to valleyfair since I was about 4. As time goes by, it's pretty much nothing anymore. Let me explain why I feel this way. First, they only have a whole 5 coasters, ok? And not only that, but they can't even make one that exceeds 245 feet because of the little airport that is right near by. How stupid, have your park right next to an airport?? So no coasters exceeding that height limit. Next is that I looked at every cedar fair park, and they have way better coasters, especially more that invert or go upside down, compared to valleyfair which only has one coaster that goes upside down, and it is the shortest thing ever. Another thing that bothers me is that our waterpark has not the best rides either. We have two strait down slides, 3 different ones, and a few other cheesy ones. But no wave pool?? This state only has one! I mean, it can get blazing hot here in the summer time. At least what I see, is that all of the other cedar fair parks have a wave pool. What the heck man. Last is that every other park just looks like they have so many better variety in coasters, and better in dividual ones period. We don't have anything that hangs, stand up, fly, etc, and only one upside down coaster. There is only one hanging coaster, but thats crap too. I don't think Valley fair will improve that much, at least in a long time. I hope soon that they will. But by the looks of it, it really doesn't look like they have much to build more in the park. I think Valleyfair got the A$$ end deal of the bargain.

Re: Valleyfair is far from the worst
Why does every park have to be better than the other one? Valleyfair offers more attractions than many other amusement parks across the US. Look at SFKK for an example of another park built next to an airport. Not every park can be a "Cedar Point" or "Six Flags Great Adventure". How boring would the world be if every park was "Cedar Point"? |

Re: Valleyfair probably the worst of ALL the amusement parks
Not all parks can be like CP or Gadv like Eric said. You have to take the good with the bad. VF is is a CF company, and it isn't the most neglected in the chaing. You have plenty in your park and you harp about it? I don't get it. My homepark is 5 minutes away and if they NEVER get another coaster, I am so happy with what they have. We have height restrictions here as well, the county airport is near by. We can never have a 500 foot rocket. Big whoopie. I wouldn't want one of those POS coasters anyway. Get a grip and start traveling, there are worse parks out there then VF. Katie |

Re: Valleyfair probably the worst of ALL the amusement parks
true valleyfair doesnt have the greatest waterpark, but you will soon have a new choice wont you? i was in minneapolis in june and saw construction on "the biggest indoor waterpark in the usa" going on near the airport. |

"Not every park can be a "Cedar Point" > Untrue, they just don't put enough effort into their parks. Look what cp started as!

Re: Valleyfair probably the worst of ALL the amusement parks
No, they can't all be huge, mammoth mega parks. But apparently some can't seem to figure that out. Not sure where they think all of the money and business is going to come from... Or that it took Cedar Point about 100 years to become what it is today, not 20. And I also wouldn't want it that way. I'm just amazed at how many people are so unsatisfied with what's around them. Let them go to someplace park deprived, like Nebraska or something. Bet they'd be grateful for whatever they could get then. Geesh. |

yeah, and the place(waterpark) is practically just a bigger version of the grand rios indoor water park. |

Re: Valleyfair probably the worst of ALL the amusement parks
Im guessing Minnesota is just a smaller market than the rest of the states that have bigger parks with more coasters? Could that be a conclusion? |

Re: Valleyfair probably the worst of ALL the amusement parks
I've just looked at a couple of pictures and I've got to say, it doesn't look like the best park but it could be worse. Our tallest coaster is 125 feet. And it's a boomerang too. You look like you have some pretty nice coasters. Wild Thing looks fun. In fact, maybe I should head down there and see for myself. And, according to RCDB, you have 7 coasters. |

Re: Valleyfair probably the worst of ALL the amusement parks
I remember when I was 17. I had the same negative feelings towards everything around me. Perhaps when you start to branch out more and actually go to "other" parks you will see that there are actually A LOT of park out there that are A LOT WORSE than Valleyfair! I mean exactly what other parks have you visited that gives you the ability to even make such a statement? I alone have been to over 65 and even I don't think that I have been to enough parks yet to be qualified to make such a statement. Man to be 17 again with no real responsibilities... |

Re: Valleyfair probably the worst of ALL the amusement parks
The best parks are not the largest ones.
The best coasters are not the tallest ones.
And on and on. "The best" is truly subjective and has everything to do with your own personal preferences. You will see all that for yourself when/if you get on the road to other locations around the country. I have never been to MN, but I bet I would enjoy Valleyfair. Mike B. |

Ok. Woh dude, woh.
I live in Perth...Australia (the MOST isolated city in the world!). I have one park. One only. Called Adventure World. The next closest park is on the other side of the country. Unreachable. But even though I'm sure you'd consider it trash I rek'n it's a great little fun park.
Parks are more than the just wham bam rides. It's about fun. So if you can't have fun at your local orsm park because your to busy hounding it...it's your loss. So can you PLEASE stop that horrible whining! You sound like a spoilt brat. You don't know how lucky you are. Think of all of the millions of people that have nothing...coasters aside even! I rest my case. All I can say is, think about it. Or maybe just try thinking first. I do apolagise for my tone, but this post hit a nerve.

Re: Valleyfair probably the worst of ALL the amusement parks
I am glad you didn't attack anyone in this post, and, as seemingly pessimistic as it may be, you stated your opinion with supportive arguments. Sorry you feel so negatively, I personally would love to visit VF. If you stay away, that will just shorten the lines for me. > First, they only have a whole 5 coasters, ok? And not only
Considering there are only 8 coasters (including Superman and Tower of Terror) in the world with drops over 245 feet, this is nothing to complain about. Also, out of 16 coasters Cedar Point only has THREE that have inversions! To me this is an amazing stat, especially seeing how it competitors has overdosed on inversion coasters. So, wanting more "loopy" coasters won't necessarily make VF better. - Pat-O Pat-O |

Re: Valleyfair probably the worst of ALL the amusement parks
Just some information for you. Don't feel too neglected by Cedar Fair when you see these other parks with better rides than Valleyfair. Because most Cedar fair parks are just additions to the Cedar Fair chain. Most of the parks they own were previously owned by others. and had their loopy rides, water parks, and coasters way before Cedar Fair came along. The only parks that have seen real change under Cedar Fair, are Cedar Point, Dorney Park, and, Knotts. Michigan's Adventure, has had improvements...but, all of it's rollercoasters were in the park before Cedar fair purchased the park. Worlds of Fun has seen very little change, and, Geauga Lake was formerly owned by Six Flags. The only thing Cedar fair has done at GL is build a bigger version of the waterpark that was already there. Cedar Point is the only park that has the best rides, and, allways will. If you had 5 million visitors at Cedar Point in one year, and only a few hundred thousand at Valley fair. Where would you want to invest your money. There park that will bring in $55,000,000.00 in entrance tickets, or the park that will pring in $7,000,000.00.? Just something for you to think about. Oh. I have a friend who lives in your state. And, I took him to Michigan's Adventure. He says Valley Fair is Better. But, he loved the water park here. Michigan's Adventure has the best water park in the Cedar fair chain. But it was built under Rodger Jourden...The parks previous owner. |

^No, the Soaks City USA(s) in California are all better than the waterpark at MiA. |

Re: Valleyfair probably the worst of ALL the amusement parks
We actually liked Valleyfair a lot when we went last summer. Wild Thing was a pretty good coaster and we loved Steel Venom. You also have the best Wild Mouse coaster I've ridden (I hate Wild Mice). Admittedly, the coasters in the park aren't the best. There are quite a few parks with no "big" coasters, and 225 feet is nothing to shake a fist at. The vast majority of amusement parks don't have a 200 ft tall coaster, so you're lucky to have one. The park does have, however, probably the largest collection of kiddie/family rides of any other park I've been to besides Disneyland. They also have a great rapids ride (one of the best I've ridden) and an amazing collection of flat rides (especially the Rock-n-Tug). There is also a great magic show starring the guy who played Max on "Saved By The Bell". In summary, Valleyfair is definitely not the "best" of all parks, but it's certainly not the worst (come to the northwest and go to Thrillville USA if you want to see that). You're lucky to have Valleyfair and Camp Snoopy at Mall or America so close. You can also easily drive to Wisconsin Dells or Arnolds Park and Adventureland in Iowa. Instead of complaining about it, just enjoy it for what it is. Thank you and . . . take care of each other. Aaron |

Re: Valleyfair probably the worst of ALL the amusement parks
At least there's such a thing as "Customer Service" at Cedar Fair parks like Valleyfair. head on over to SFKK where they have some decent rides but piss poor customer service, a lackadasical attitude about stopping graffitti and probably the slowest dispatching of rides in the world. DUDE, the minute i read your post, i just pissed me off so much. For one, i am a HUGE ride fan and a HUGE fan of Valleyfair because i live only 20 minutes from there so you saying all this crappy stuff about it, doesn't cut it. Also, many of your facts are not straight. you said that no ride can exceed 245. that is untrue. Power Tower, actually is 275. so, that is one thing that's wrong. another thing is that we have 7 rollercoasters, NOT 5. Do you want me to name them? Mad Mouse, Wild Thing, Steel Venom, High Roller, Excalibur, Cork Screw, and the Mild Thing. So, apparently, you have probably only been to Valleyfair once in your life. Now that is pretty pathetic that you had Valleyfair so much for all your stupid reasons. I think the water park there is awesome. We make a plan to go there like 2-3 times a year. Plus, they have some pretty awesome coasters. Just because maybe we don't have as many rollercoasters or as high of coasters than CPP, does not mean you have to make such a big deal of it that it is this horrible disaster. I think you might need to travel to some more parks around the country and you will learn, Valleyfair could be at the top of the list when you compare some. So, maybe you should 1) travel 2) get your facts straight or 3) just shut it all together. because i'm pissed right now. P-I-S-S-E-D! |

Re: Valleyfair probably the worst of ALL the amusement parks
You know I actually LIKE Valleyfair, I much prefer the smaller parks to the larger parks, just because they are so much more manageable. Plus just because your coasters are not the newest doesn't make them bad, it just makes them well loved. I always use the Zambezi Zinger as a great example (a moment of silence) It was NOT new, added in 1973, it was quite old in 1997, but people still today really hate (I mean REALLY hate) Worlds of Fun for removing it. As far as how many coasters a park has.. I think that is meaningless. My favorite park is Lakeside and it only has two coasters, and I think you would find very few coaster enthusiasts who would call Lakeside a bad amusement park. Jennifer |
