mean streak
My mom rode the mean streak a couple years ago at cedar point and I wanted her opinion on it before I went on it. WHen she got off, she said it was one of the most violent roller coasters she has ever ridden. She said her back was sore after the ride. I am going to CEdar Point on Wednsday and am having second thoughts about riding this. Is it really that painful, or is she just being dramatic? |

Re: mean streak
Your mother obviously hasn't ridden many woodies. Mean streak is rough, but compared to many other woodies its a first class flight. High roller @ Valleyfair! is the roughest roller coaster in the world. Just because it's old, unlike mean streak, which only happens to be 15 years old. Cedar point has taken good care of MS and I love it. A must ride on your trip. Have a safe and fun trip-Nate |

> Have a safe and fun trip-Nate Age has nothing to do with a coaster being rough, its more an issue of if the coaster is maintained and taken care of properly. There are plenty of old coasters that operate quite nicely and smoothly and there are some newer coasters that are more or less very rough. Take Rolling Thunder for example, build in the mid 1970s, pretty new compare to many of the older coasters out there and its very rough. Now other coasters like Racer at Kennywood, built in 1927, much older than RT, but much smoother....Why? Because its maintened better and is given more care than a coaster like Rolling Thunder or Mean Streak for that manner. My point is that a coaster can be as smooth as a park lets it be, and it has nothing to do with age. A coaster that's 80 years old and well maintained can ride better than a newer coaster that's 20 years old and not well maintaned. Some coasters are just rough from the beginning. Sure its age that detereorates the track and trains, due to wear and tear over a long period of time, but like an old car, if its maintained well and taken care of it can have a long and healthy lifespan and still give a solid ride 50-60 years down the road (Or track, I should say). -DAN |

I am looking forward to MS, (not a ton because of the reactions from many people) but will ride it. I usually do not have a problem with roughness. My mom will go on every roller coaster at CP but this trip, she will skip MS. > Have a safe and fun trip-Nate Thanks |

ok... first of all mean streak is not that rough. u might want to ask her which color train she was on. i went to CP recently and my friend and i found out that the green train was much more violent than the rest. so make sure u dont get the green train and u should be fine. hope this helps |

Re: mean streak
^ Mean Streak is as crappy as your writing/ spelling/ puctuation is- it's a rough, painful, boring POS that would serve far better as firewood than as a coaster. Well, except for looking nice. Seriously "fanboy", you need to do two things- get to some other parks besides CP, and get into English class and learn how to write coherently if you want people to listen to and respect you. |

Mean Streak is not that rough. I rode it twice Saturday and had no problems with it. It may not be the best coaster out there but it is a nice long ride. For people to talk about what a POS it is, it had fairly long lines the whole time I was there. |

Re: mean streak
Odd. My response above was, I thought, to another post on a different thread that only had a couple of posts on it. While the poster it responded to is right (forgot his name while I was typing it, hende the "fanboy" comment), the one I responded to was much more curt and rude than what is now above my post. At least that's how I remember it, which is part of the reason I responded as I did. I wonder if a couple of threads got merged here... That, or I just got plain confused again while typing a reply and made a jerk out of myself again. :P Getting back on topic though, a long line is not proof of a good or popular ride. It could mean that the ride is low capacity (how many trains was MS running that day?), or that the park is so overcrowded that day that people will line up for just about anything. I've seen days that Psyclone at SFMM has had a 45-60 minute wait, but I don't know anyone that would call that a decent coaster by any stretch of the imagination. In my opinion, Mean Streak tries hard to be as bad as Psyclone is, and comes pretty close. But then you knew that already. |

Oh did I forgot to mention that there was a rainstorm which had everything closed in the park and after that I decided to wait for Mean Streak after walking from the front of the park which was dead. People (including myself) decided to wait for Mean Streak for a while (which was running 2 trains) not because it was busy but because we wanted to. What irritates me is that some people have to complain about everything. It doesn't matter what a few enthusiasts think about a ride, as long as the general public wants to ride it. |
