Thunderhead

Dollywood

The Thunderhead wooden roller coaster designed by Great Coasters International cost $7 million to build and uses 700,000 board feet of Southern yellow pine. Thunderhead's two trains travel 3,230 feet of twisted wood track, reaching speeds of 55 mph during the two and half minute trip. Thrills to be found include the 100-foot first drop into a speed S-curve and the world's first "fly-through" station that sends the coaster's trains roaring above the heads of the passengers waiting on the loading platform.
